What are some solutions to stopping a DDoS attack? and why do people do this besides for fame and glory, the ease of doing it, and the dislike of the organization?

i think you can move to a different IP, or have alot of bandwidth, i listened to alot of the twit.tv podcasts in the last 2 weeks and in one of them gibson said something about using a proxy to drop certain packets coming from attacking IPs.

people do it to make money - getting the site to pay them to stop the attacks, or because they don't like the site for some reason.

there're some solutions in this podcast -
