Cybersecurity firm buying hacker forum accounts to spy on cybercriminals

    That is not exactly a new strategy, and it is disturbingly easy to pull off. We had that going on "under the table" at bitcointalk awhile ago. Any new member can PM a senior member on any site -- even here by the way -- and offer to connect off forum, or using encrypted PM's in the forum itself. If enough money is offered the member simply sells the account to a buyer. Who would ever know? If a member kept their true ID "tight" there would be little downside for them personally. Such a senior member would likely have been connecting through revolving VPNs and/or TOR so the software wouldn't catch the change in the connection. A crypto transfer done properly would be untraceable.
