Hey all. I was recently given a 2004 model emachines CRT monitor. The picture's really good when it's on, but I noticed when it's turned off the screen looks like an "oil slick." It's only noticeable in the right light. I've never seen this before, does anyone know what might have caused it? I searched online but I'm not finding anything. Thanks. :)

    Oil slick?
You mean it's full of greasy fingerprints or that it seems to have some issues in the CRT screen itself? :D

could be a few things. a lot of times it could be the polarization coating or it could just be dirty

Not sure why it would be a concern when it's turned off anyway :doubt:

Here's a picture. You can see a bluish-pink cloud in the mini blinds. It actually covers the whole screen. I found a couple of things online that make me think it was exposed to a strong magnetic field at some point.

It's not dirty and it's got a great picture when it's on so I'm not really worried about it, just curious cause I've never seen it before.

if it had been gaussed (by a magnet) then you would normally see it only when its turned on not normally while its turned off. as i said its prob the top layer of the screen you are seeing. this has been more common in recent years with some sets even on some newer led ones.

To me it looks like the Anti-Glare coating and someone is using Windex on it! I use the spray bottle from the Optical store to clean your Glasses or Sunglasses with Anti-Glare to clean my screens!

Right, now I know what you mean, It's nothing, it's just an electomagnetic phenomenon called pixilation, you may see this on Old TV screens also :)
