17 new updates for Vista from MS today (Win 7 is dead due to ESET's ballsup last time)

Same story, PC hangs after updates and requested restart forcing me to press reset button.

At restart it claims its doing stage 1-3 of updates but it sits at 0% for ages then claims its done stage 3-3 and 100% which is not possible.

On startup all updates are either missing or Pending.

I am sick to the back teeth of ESET and version 4.XX esp.

I was waiting for someone to post this. It is not a problem specific to 1 update, this locks up Windows Update in general. For anyone else looking to do today's updates be sure to disable real-time file system protection before you do it.

I fixed it but not a happy camper with ESET TBH.

EDIT : I have reported ESET to the team leader in charge of my input for Win 7 SP1 Beta.

Now sure what MS will do but he did say he would pass it on to MS.

Remember what MS did to Sony after their DRM was messing with Windows PC's !

    http://www.betanews.com/article/Microsoft-to-Detect-Remove-Sony-DRM/1131979846

Now imagine all the ESET users who are normal Joe Public and do not know about these forums or even know about Safe Mode or anything technical.

They should have taken me seriously when I first reported this a few weeks ago. They are not going to fix this with a definition update, the need to fix the real-time file system module. In any case the lack of response to this problem is enough that I won't be renewing this year. :thumbd:

Your not renewing is your decision to make, I am not trying to stop you.

This recent MS update of August 10, 2010 went smoothly, for me, on all three (3) Win 7 x64 PC's.

I am sorry that it didn't work for you.

    Cheers :D

Well you have nothing to really post about then.

Is it possible you have changed the real time settings before for some reason ?

Just because it works for a few but not for the masses does not make it ok.

Google last weeks or so ago KB(number in here)+ESET and see how many results you get, and I bet its the same in a day or 2 for these KB's.

F.Y.I Vista had 17 KB's today, I read Win 7 had 3 KB's but mines is dead thanks to ESET.

    That KB was KB2286198.

Windows 7 had more than 3. Between Windows 7 and Office 2010 I had 14 updates today.

Again, for anybody not wanting to take chances disable real-time file system protection before you update, then turn it back on when you are done.

I had a problem with getting a blue screen saying windows did not shut down properlyon stage 2 of installing updates after hitting restart now. I let the computer restart normally and when it re-booted it seems everything is ok but the blue screen with too many notes to read on it scares me. This happened on my vista sp-2 notebook with nod32 4.2.58.3 my xp note book had no problems running the same version of nod32. This happened on the last big batch of updates also the one with 19 on it as well as this one today with 17.

I would bet this doesn't happen with all Windows updates but it happens with more than 1 of them. It looks like most of the complaints today are from Vista users. It may be helpful if when people share their experiences they post what OS they are using, especially if there is a problem.

Not good for me either...4.2.58.3 blue-screened 2 of my fully updated Vista Home Premium 32-bit PCs. Norton systems update just fine.

Turning off real time file scanning on another Vista Home Premium 32-bit PC solved the problem.

    Not renewing here either.

Cannot comment on Win 7 due to ESET+last KB (its dead).

Will get round to fixing it when I can be bothered.

Just updated Vista business 32 and XP pro with no problems.
Of course, I uninstalled ESET SS before updating and did a search on ESET.

I had no issues with Eset 4.2.58.3, virus signature 5356, and Windows x64 on several computers. I did not have to disable anything.

Got to laugh at some of peeps here.

    Disabled ESET and no problems.

    Uninstalled ESET and no problems.

WTF do you expect if you do that it WILL work, its not about that it is about messing up when it ain't disabled or removed which for 99% of users will be the case as they will simply let WU auto update their PC's.

ESET need to fix this period !

Yeah bit me too, Windows Vista - 32 - Home. Frustrating part was that I was in the middle of swapping a ssd into my wifes system. Cloning went fine and everything came up good, then windows update started downloading the 17 available updates. Well when it went to restart, bsd popped up. I thought the problem was with my ssd swap. I ended up in a windows update Step 3 of 3 - 0% loop that I couldn't get out of and I have no Vista disc as it came preinstalled. Not fun!

Eventually I was able to get back in by swapping in the old hdd.

Overall, I like eset as it runs well on older systems (seems to have low overhead), but when it goies like this it is really unfortunate.

Better luck next time for me maybe. :)

well you´re right, Eset is not the one of few years ago, I disabled it because i didn´t want to get the problems with the updates, now I´m thinking on changing it this weekend ,,, or maybe wait for the next release, hopping that they have fixed this issues
