Not too surprising, BEST BUY is been advertising in my market area of brand new laptops starting at an unheard of 299 USD. That's dirt cheap if you ask me since laptops outdistance their desktop companions in price by a pretty wide margin mostly.

That's a shame. I don't suppose there's any chance of some other outfit taking over?

Most of the software we've bought, and most of the parts I have on hand has come from CompUSA, either their store or online. We were talking about going to Albuquerque next month to visit friends and stop by the store there to pick up after some after Christmas stuff. I guess we'd better change plans and go early.

    Yeah Chuck57,

I have to make a trip myself over to CompUSA and get in on some of these liquidations provided they don't pull a 10-30% off sninuff like some store closeouts do. Sometimes if they don't go at their set rate they end up passing the merchandise to another type of reseller if you will and give them an additional percentage of the sales rather then the regional area of choice. Capitalism is a nasty policy sometimes but is all we got to work with. Buy at our sellout price or do without, right?

Our main reason for shopping there, prior to this announcement anyway, is they backed up their sales with a good service or return policy. You go to Circuit City or Best Buy and have a problem, do they have techs who can fix it? I don't know. Never shopped at either place.

A friend of mine, total idiot around computers but has one, takes his in to CompUSA at least twice a year because he screws up something with either the computer or printer and has to have them fix it. Last I heard, his computer wouldn't boot and he was taking it in this weekend. He will miss CompUSA.

All of the CompUSA stores closed up in my area earlier this year. I thought it was odd that they would shut down the stores in a "high technology" area of the country, but I guess they either didn't generate enough business or wanted to save on the rental costs? I used to buy a lot of free after rebate software from them many years ago. Now with so many online retailers, I hardly ever set foot in their stores for the past few years and the last time I was there, it was to go to the restroom. ;) :D

TigerDirect and CompUSA sold a lot of similar items so a merger would seem logical.

Can someone tell me what was CompUSA?
I'm in a small village in Lancashire hills of England, i either use the net or small shop at the bottom of the hill i live on, and their prices for stuff are very competitive if not the best. Plus if i have PC probs they only have to trudge up the hill.
