Hehe I am sure you are right about that as everyone cannot possibly have your level of expertise on matters of software. I expect my ignorance would be obvious to most schoolchildren today, as when I was at school in the 1940s and 50s we had never even heard of computers, indeed I didn't even have my first personal computer until about 1977, when I had to write my own programs in basic, as there were no commercial offerings available. I did that to save a lot of time in my accounts department. Much better things available now of course.

That does not mean we are all stupid however, just that we followed different careers and have different areas of specialist knowledge.

The reason I am an unashamed fan of Comodo, is that Melih has an amazing ambition and enthusiasm and that is what you need to come up with real achievements in life. Yes he gets carried away at times, but his business plan is proving to be sound and he has good reason to blow his trumpet a little.

It is sad that there are people in the 'security community' constantly blogging to spread fear and distrust. (not at you firzen, just a general observation)

Those people will never be able to use Comodo software, so I feel rather sorry for them.

well i am using CIS as my only security solution for sometime now......and i think its doing a mighty fine job....

And also there is no security product in the market which is bug-free even after extensive testing.....

Unfortunately, what you label "amazing ambition and enthusiasm" comes across as megalomania, intransigence, and demagoguery to much of the community. And the thread that the dislike and distrust of Comodo is based on financial competition is pure nonsense-it is not the other vendors who recommend against using Comodo, it is the users, former users, and those who read Melih's nonsense. Comodo has lost sight of the fact that all of us are in this fight against malware together-users, vendors, security experts. In the first PM I wrote him after becoming a moderator, I suggested that if he wanted to continue being a mad dog, he should appoint a Chief Technical Officer or similar to represent Comodo to the community and work out solutions to many of our joint problems. I still think this would be the best thing for Comodo to do, and let Melih continue to be the chief marketeer and Minister of Propaganda. BTW, I have been working with computers since 1962, but that doesn't make me an expert on Windows. ;) The issue brought up is real, though. Comodo users seem more enthusiastic than most about repeating things that either are not quite true or that they just don't understand. Part of that is probably due to the use of the Junior Melih Mafia, but it drives many dedicated Comodo users to other forums for answers, because too many real questions are answered by affirmations of faith, instead of facts. So I don't hate Comodo, but wish there were more direction toward fixing the core product problems and addressing some of the real issues and less to the gee-whiz stuff and that Comodo would actually appoint a CTO and Melih would learn to STFU once in a while instead of helping make more enemies. But don't expect that in anyones stocking for Christmas. Good luck with Comodo 4; beta testing of 3 was quite an experience. :)

Wow, am I the only who noticed that the discussion quickly drifted from talking about the actual software to talking about one-sentence statement on the Comodo forums :cautious: ? It seems that any discussion about Comodo just cannot be done without bringing in the company's CEO. I just cannot understand for the life of me why [you] people just don't leave him out of the conversation. You guys don't do this when you discuss other companies' products, do you :thumbd: ?

Now then, I have two questions that actually relate to the software:
    1. Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that Time Machine would not be fully integrated into CIS. Does anyone know why this is? I haven't [beta] tested Time Machine, so I don't know of all the features, but does anyone know what features will not be present?
    2. CIS v4 will also have a behavior blocker, so how exactly will this work together with the HIPS module and TheatCast? It seems that CIS v4 will be integrating so many new features that it will just overlap; it kind of blows my mind  . For example, if I were to run an unknown file with CIS v4 protecting me, what kind of popup would I receive? Would that be the HIPS module that kicks in, ThreatCast, or the new behavior blocker?

nowhere did i ever say i was an expert, but when someone essentially calls me wrong and an idiot when in fact they are just talking sh*t since THEY dont actually understand what they are saying, if u dont understand what ur talking about, why go on such an offensive trying to prove ur point? thats what i meant about the people on Comodo's forum for the most part.

a lot of them are irrational apparently know-it-all's who dont really know what theyre talking about, not all, but enuff of them.

Actually there is a lot of discussion about the principals of the various products here. People like Vlk, Mike Nash, Ilya, Inspector Clouseau, ... others get discussed and sometimes even appear here. In modest size businesses the CEO/CTO is often the public persona for the company as well. But a more interesting question for some of the people in this thread-why do you feel more comfortable asking technical questions and having technical discussions here than over at the Comodo Forum?

Yes, that's a good question, too! As a matter of fact I'd say this is the better option, seeing as a lot of threads here about Comodo turn out less than friendly.

But, incase your post was directed at me, my reason is that past history has shown (without going into further detail) Comodo's forums are not the most objective place to discuss their products. If I happened to have a support question, then I probably would go there. But as far as discussion about an upcoming product and new features, I'd rather have as little "marketing speak" as I can get ;) .

Also, I don't have an account there. But I agree with you in general; if my curiosity happens to get the better of me and I decide to delve further into CIS v4, then I'll certainly go to Comodo's forums, rather than starting a new thread here. And I may have to do just that, because I still am quite puzzled as to how they plan to pack all those features into a program (sandbox, HIPS, Threatcast, behavior blocker, Time Machine, antivirus, and firewall! :isay:  ).

I personally think its kinda lame sitting here talking **** about him (Melih) when the mods around here is keeping him banned afraid to see him speak up for himself or something? Its just not right to talk **** when you don't let the man speak up against it..

@firzen771, who on comodo is calling you an idiot? o_O I can't find such posts. And what is it you believe the comodo community fails to understand? By the look on your posts on comodo you was proved the one lacking in knowledge regarding the sandbox.. Not Melih. At least that how I understood it.

comodo internet security is a good software, but i will not use it unless they offer somekind of offline update that does'nt hose the harddrive. The lates update comesaround at 105MB & takes 15-30 minutes of extereme hdd activity to update, and when i asked at there forums for a solution for an offline update, they have no reply. Some solutions described there won't work (the one where u download a base_end_user.cav and replacing it,[u still have to download 105mb via comodo] :(

    Hi guys,

Comodo forums have become an unthinkable place to post with the time. So I'm not surprised people prefer to come here to discuss it (Hi sded ;) ) , whether it's technical, or general marketing considerations. Guess if those forums (Comodo) were still the place they use to be a couple of years ago, people would post almost exclusively there instead, and wouldn't feel the need to comment CIS so often on other security related sites. It's not just on Wilders...

OK back to CIS: I'm using it, avoiding the AV component since the beginning. Still find the firewall and the HIPS top notch, but for moral considerations, might switch to Online Armor (when 64bit version is out) or to Avast 5 firewall (part of their new security suite) when it's out of beta. Currently running the "free" version of avast5 beta (so, just AV related), it's a really nice piece of software, I can only recommend it

    Folks,

Let's keep the discussion focused on the product which is the subject of this thread, not extraneous issues. Thanks in advanced.

Hi guys long time not seen,

first of all, if you have something against melih or his strategies at least have the guts to take it to him directly !

People tend to stay with their friends ;). (but remember that you can always make new ones.)

AFAIK, TM will not be directly integrated into CIS. If you have it installed, it will pop-up in the GUI, but it will not come in standardly.
I go for option 4 : It will be sandboxed :D . All new applications (not in the whitelist either) will be sandboxed. This will tremendously lower the amount of pop-ups.

Almost all things said here about V4 are correct. Only that the complete GUI overhaul has been postponed to the next big version since it wasn't ready yet.

    best regards,
    eXp

ps : note to logos, I wish not to reply as per request of the admins :).

umm if u havent noticed in the past that never goes well on such a one sided forum like Comodo's, no offense but threads either get closed or everyone just spams the thread against u completely irrationally too blinded to think objectively about what the person has to say... thats why its pointless to say anything that isnt just praising Comodo.

I think we got into this diversion by looking at the things claimed to be unique and first in CIS4, and trying to figure out why they were different/better than things other vendors are already doing. Still don't have an answer to that, but maybe it isn't relevant. Maybe eXPerience can enlighten us a bit there, although it might turn into an A-B comparison if not careful.
As far as CEOs, fortunately we have been informed that only a handful of people have any issues with Melih https://forums.comodo.com/general_d..._discussion-t48473.0.html;msg348663#msg348663 so don't need any more general discussion.

    Alright, that sounds appropriate.

But then what exactly is the point of all the other features? I know it reads like an odd question, but if everything is sandboxed by default, then when will the other features – HIPS/Threatcast & behavior blocker – come into play? Also, this begs two more questions:
    1. Which features will compose D+? For example, will D+ include the sandbox, HIPS w. Threatcast, and behavior blocker?
    2. Will the user have the option to disable every individual component of CIS? For example, if he decides that he doesn't need a sandbox or HIPS, but wants the behavior blocker, can he choose to install just that?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm just trying to get a little better understanding of Comodo's methodology in terms of how they plan to pull this off (I'm not saying it can't be done!). I've certainly never used any Internet security product that has this many features planned, so it's just aroused my curiosity :D .

    Thanks in advance!

Don't know about the pixie dust, though. I thought they were using black juju instead.

[at]firzen, the sigs database is now being populated with family signatures, rather than a separate signature per variant. This is why the sig db size is decreasing.

[at[ firzen, if you are having a problem on the Comodo forums with anyone, p[lease use your login there to PM a mod (Panic would be a good place to start:D ). I'm sure they'll do what they can to sort things out. Childish sniping should never be tolerated anywhere.

    Cheers,
    CT :)
