You probably have the right take on the use of the P2P term being appropriate. A large percentage of suspicious files are from porn sites or porn related. DACS can become the porn clearing agent for the internet. But I think this is actually multiple hub and spokes networks, with support acting as servers, since I don't see collaboration between the nodes. But maybe the architecture will clarify a bit soon.

Only unknown files will be sent to the clouds, do not forget that Comodo has a massive whitelist due to its default deny approach.

Melih says that AV companies do share samples but they do not do it in real time. As a result users get infected, this is why he had to step in to save the world.lol

    Merry Xmas

Seems that CCE (Comodo Cleaning Essentials) has already DACS.

There is a small difference. The obligations of a citizen's behaviour about crime, is regulated by the state law, because justice is a good of the competence of the state. What DACS can or can't do, is affected by the EULA's of the other companies and intellectual property rights as well, i presume laws about causing profit loss by unlawful use of others' resources. Actually, an updated EULA by a vendor may bring to trouble first the end user instead of Comodo.

Is it SO HARD to understand that he is comparing crime and justice, the defence of which are PUBLIC GOODS guaranteed by the state, paid for by the tax payer and malware fight, which is conducted by PRIVATE COMPANIES, each with an EULA and an accompanying legislation about intellectual property, which have NOTHING to do with crime and justiceo_O IS IT SO HARD?

FOR GOD's SAKE, this is not PUBLIC HEALTH! Melih IS NOT THE STATE. MALWARE DEFENCE IS NOT A PUBLIC GOOD. He is a CEO. He can't FORCE other companies' CEOs do dispose of their products to his liking, even if he comes down with all the moral populism he likes. Even STATES can't force PRIVATE companies to share their own resources for the benefit of the public health. I think he is exploiting other companies' resources to boost the reputation and penetration of his own company, hiding behind false moralism, who surely didn't show when he didn't think twice about selling certificates to the bad guys. Ah, but yes! I forget! That wasn't part of the "public health" back, then, it was part of the fact that a PRIVATE company, doesn't get paid by PUBLIC money (aka state money), so it must find PROFIT to keep on the other branch of the business (the one who runs with moralism).

    My proposals:

    1) Run for US President. This way he can nationalize everything and share everything with everyone.
    2) Instead of grabbing other companies' resource for the benefit of his own products, he should ask other vendors if they would agree on that.
    3) Even better, open source all Comodo products, so that the entire planet can benefit from that and more malware defence programs can be written so EVEN MORE security will be available for the COMMON GOOD OF THE PEOPLE. Oh, that wouldn't be so good of an idea, would it... Let's stick to virus samples, that suit our line of business better...

    Melih:

btw: this Fuzzas keeps saying wrong things...

I setup the ONLY standards organisation for Certificates http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Validation_Certificate and thanks to that many respectable sites use better certificates that can't be abused.

And look at other providers who issue Certificates to ill intentioned people
    http://www.ccssforum.org/malware-certificates.php

Again, its Comodo trying to save the users! And we are paying for these!!

Going back to DACS: AV companies are being unethical by putting profits before public health......DACS is balancing this out! Fuzzas should not worry, it will not stop his beloved profit driven AV companies from making $10B revenue a year. DACS will simply up the end user security.

DACS sounds interesting, but I don't like this whole "the AV companies are morally wrong" associated with it. People working at AV companies must live somehow. I'm also wondering about the resource usage and false positives, but I guess this system could be effective if done correctly.
    a) DACS doesn't give real-time protection
    b) According to the recent AV-Comparatives real time protection test the protection rates of F-Secure, Norton, Avira and Kaspersky are over 98% (and that has also been my experience with those). Much more than 70%, and after tweaking the settings a little it's actually hard to get infected with those.

Yes, i know his version of story. I just have read also the other one:

    http://msmvps.com/blogs/donna/archi...tificates-issued-to-malware-distributors.aspx

    http://msmvps.com/blogs/hostsnews/archive/2009/05/16/1692519.aspx

Yes, i remember back then the explanation of "some other would have issued the certificate, so why not me"... How will we save the world, if we follow the unethical ways of otherso_O

How can a NON PUBLIC, for-profit company, be unethical for something that is not PUBLICALLY guaranteed? If malware protection was a public good, we 'd have free state antivirus for starters. Oh i don't worry, i don't run a for-profit company. But if i did, you can bet i would react to this.

As of now resource usage is high. But lets give it a some time to mature. Remember this is not a major upgrade. Its a whole new brand product itself.

Yes. But in future it will be integrated in CIS once it matures.

As of now AV part is being improved continuously. And v5.3 introduces rootkit scanner. This is detection part. But reg. prevention Comodo Firewall is already pretty much it does its job against zero day viruses. Slightly tweak its settings, you are pretty much secure even with zero day exploits ( like link exploit)

    Thanks,
    Harsha.

I have to ask, then, why do you persist in arguing here. Make the original post, point a link to the Comodo forum, and then forget it. If people have questions let them go where they can "official" answers.

Your persistence here starts to have elements of drum beating, and that will always bring out opponents.

Do you have a mandate to keep Wilder's folks up to date. If they are interested can they not go to the Comodo forum and get that info.

    Think about it.

I was arguing because some people were saying things that were not true just for attack Comodo, because of the lack of information. (Seems to be the national sport)
Anyway as you can see I'm not arguing anymore, I haven't updated anything and Comodo forums are plenty of new info.

Yep it's funny because these forums are plenty of this kind things and don't create any "problem"

But this is almost normal since we can consider DACS a revolutionary technology or controversial or whatever, and Comodo give a few info about it at the beginning.

We have had our disagreements in the past. However, I have to applaud your persistence in explaining Comodo products. Frankly, I would have done the same thing when it comes to my favorite products. Having said that I've got to admit that CCE and KillSwitch are great products and I intend to use them, not only for testing, but for my daily computer needs.

Do not let negative comments suppress your freedom of expression (with respect to Wilders Security Forums Policies). If you have NOT violated any Wilders policies no one can tell you why do you keep coming back here. That is plain rude and frankly counter productive to the purpose of security forums; purpose such as: explaining, elucidate, and learning.

Merry Christmas, if you do celebrate Christmas ;).

    Thanks.

this to me seems really promising in what it does. and it would be kool to see it added into CIS.

As per Melih (CEO of Comodo), it will be added in 5.xx release only (after v5.3 though).:thumb:
I guess more people would test it after one/two more beta releases...:)

    Regards,
    Harsha

I'd like to test this the protection system and see how it performs. I don't like the fact that it acts like a parasite... but if it protects me with low overhead, why not use it? As I've said, I'd like to test it before I post my thoughts on it.

Thanks for your comments, I know that sometimes the discussions goes so far unnecessarily.
I remember more or less the battles but not the names :D , so if we argue in the past I'm so sorry.

yes I do, Merry Christmas ;)

For me the best part is that Comodo is open to share DACS with any other reliable security company so if WE are lucky we could see DACS on many AV's or security software (spyshelter, Zemana, online armor...)
The most users the faster everybody gets protection against any new malware.

So is this dacs realtime or not?.Melih says it is in reply 14...

    https://forums.comodo.com/melihs-co...nals-not-anymore-thanks-to-dacs-t66825.0.html

Personally i cant see this approach catching on.The big av players have a lot of influence in various buisnesses ,including isps ,and i guess they all get a slice of the money pie somewhere along the line. Then theres the amount of free avs ,and free multi scanner on demand avs that are available. Also I think more people are becoming aware of sandboxes and backing up your whole pc (which is getting faster and faster).I dont see anything here that is revolutionary or that (imo) will change the world.

seen this on some other forum and LOL about how true it sounds ;)

btw. this whole thread seems like Viral Marketing campaign for DACS

and about KillSwitch it's again nothing new at all

most of the features it has are already available in Tools
from MS SysInternals (Process Explorer/Process Monitor etc.), Iarsn (TaskInfo), Nirsoft
and other tools like security part e.g. in UPM or ProcessHacker and so on ...

but to respect the work put in if all these features in KillSwitch work well
and correctly at once then at leasts thumb up for well done merge
