I would advice caution, since i see that amongst the first comments, there are complaints about problems, crashes, high CPU usage, not running on Windows 7 etc.

IMHO, in this release they 've introduced several changes and bugs should be expected. I would first wait for some others to do the guinea pigs, before abbandning the 3.5.x.439. :D

    Or have an image ready.

IMHO they 've put too many changes in a single release and things don't look promicing. From the changelog, the only thing that would interested me personally, is the extended trusted vendors support (since i don't intend to use the AV or TC). The rest, is probably cause of more bugs...

The more things you stuff into an application, the more time it will take to have a stable, bug-free version. And personally i am afraid that the "Vista enhancements" may mean "XP problems"...

Well, I tried it or actually tried to..

Installed it on Vista 64 after removing KIS2009. Rebooted and set it to learning mode and went to click on my browser icon and nothing no pop ups no nothing. As a matter of fact none of my apps would work nothing would start up and there was no pop ups or messages of any kind. Checked the resources in case it was doing something or if I was just froze up but cpu and memory usage were low. Uninstalled it rebooted and installed KIS back all good again....Go figure as I was messing around with a CIS version last week without any issues.

I haven't tried CIS in a long time. Does anyone have any new screenshots? And does this version have a right-click scanner?

I noticed the CEO's post on their forums:

Is this true? Does anyone know how CIS compares to, mainstream products like Kaspersky, Norton, AVG/avast! etc?

Other Vendors do NOT provide Buffer Overflow Protection, Now Defense+ in v3.8 has integrated this Defense.

v4.0 of CIS will be another huge milestone...

    Cheers,

Doesn't any modern cpu that supports hardware DEP (enabled on Vista by default) do exactly the same thing without the need for extra software?

There probably is a reason why the other vendors don't include "anti-buffer overflow" protection....

CIS the new antivirus has not been in any major tests, but a guess is that it is a not as nice as Nortons or kasperskys (yet). But its getting there.

The HIPS included are probably stronger, and the firewall too. CIS has a background of scoring way beyond Kasp and norton in firewall and leaktest.
Also the Bufferoverflow protection is a plus. And its free, and lightweight (but most people got a lot of ram nowdays anyway)..

You can configure it a LOT, thats a plus and a minus.
Plus is that advanced users can get better protection than the limited configuration options usually offered.
Minus is that an old granny might get confused..

Yes Iam a fanboy of CIS, its a great product..:-* :cautious:

No your wrong. DEP protects you some, but is bypassed by Return-to-libc buffer overflow attacks for instance. CIS don't have that weakness.:cautious: :cautious:

    Re: Comodo CIS 3.8.64263.468 Released

    I see...

Is this a part of the defence+ HIPS system? (because in theory most HIPS can stop unknown programs BO because they run with lower privset)...and has Comodo released any statistics about how commonly misused this buffer overflow method is? (I mean yes, if it can thwart something as widespread as Kido good job but otherwise what is the point)

It would make sense if it was but if it is a standalone thing then it seems a bit wierd

    Just curious not flaming :)

    Re: Comodo CIS 3.8.64263.468 Released

It was standalone.. called safesurf, and there still is one called memory firewall, But now it is a part of D+.

The comodo coders somehow did a mistake when releasing the new 3.8 version however, they forgot to remove safe surf (its optional upon install but its still there).. o_O :doubt: well
we all make mistakes :D :D But I think that this one may have been on purpose.

EDIT:: sorry I explained that badly, safesurf is still in the cis installer, its a standalone program and won't course any conflicts. But its obsolete now as D+ has buffer overflow protection inbuilt for all applications.

Let me get this straight. The Safesearch was coming with a toolbar too, that was using Ask.com search. In 3.8, is the toolbar installed too? (with the search engine)?

The Safesearch is still an optional component (including ASK) .

As for the question about v4.0 that'll include the BOclean functionality and CIMA too. Also perhaps we'll see the Comodo Time Machine make an appearance (think RollbackRX + SBIE from the information given so far).

Whether you're a Comodo fan or not it can only be good including all this functionality free of charge since this will make other vendors look at their pricing structure.
