It's quite possible that I've messed up things at my end but I am seeing that the font for stuff within code tags is proportional. Many other forums use non-proportional fonts.

By default, and without any overriding of fonts or CSS layouts, the text in CODE tags with be non-proportional, and the text in normal post bodies and QUOTE tags is proportional.

Here's how your last post with CODE tags looks to me:

If yours looks different, maybe something is set up differently in your browser. (Didn't you play around with CSS settings a little while back?)

Yes. It is something in my stylesheet. Turning it off solves the problem. I was confused because the same stylesheet works well with other forums I visit:
    user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum
    adblockplus.org/forum
    forum.userstyles.org
    neowin.net/forum
    ubuntuforums.org

    I think I'll have to make a site-specific tweak.
