It's good to see ClamAV for Windows finally has realtime scanning.

I've been running it for a couple of days with no troubles.

Anyone else tried it? It's still beta.

Clam AV for Windows with real-time monitor is not new. It has been available for several months (& shortly may disappear or morph into something a bit different).

Is this the Clam you meant? If not, please be more specific and provide a link.

There were Clam Sentinel that offered to add Real Time protection in ClamWin. Also there were CS Antivirus, MoonAV that had real time protection...:)

Uh-oh. Let's hope for the best, then. The ClamAV you are trialing was partnered with Immunet. AFAIK, Immunet has moved away from Clam & now uses Bit Defender on its Pro (non-free) version. Its free version no longer has a built-in AV (I think).

Will ClamAV continue to produce their Clam/Immunet combo? Will the Immunet folks even allow Clam to do so? Who knows? (Not me)

ClamAv for Windows never had realtime scanning. ClamAv for Windows was never an AV application.

The Open source Linux/Unix ClamAV "engine" was ported to Windows a long time ago and called ClamAV for Windows but technically it's ClamAV Win32 - it's used by ClamWin, Spyware Terminator, etc. It's still available at -http://hideout.ath.cx/clamav/- Alot of open source email and messaging apps use it and anyone can and did and do roll their own AV app with it.

But now the ClamAV for Windows at zip's link in post #4 is Immunet version 1 with ClamAV logos.

ClamAv for Windows, the long time Linux port Win32 engine, and ClamAV for Windows, the new Immunet cloud app, are two completely different things. They don't share a bit of code in common.

Maybe the Immunet version 2 based ClamAV for Windows will integrate the Clam Win32 engine locally for free like Immunet Plus does with BitDefender at a cost. But, Immunet 2 Plus's on-demand root kit scanner uses BD libraries so maybe Clam is building their own root kit scanner which means there could be a ClamAV for Windows Plus. And not for free?

The Immunet/ClamAV branching is going to be weird to watch.

The free version uses two cloud engines (ETHOS and SPERO).
The Plus version adds the TETRA engine, which is Bitdefender's one, thus a local database.

Correct, and Immunet / ClamAV continue to to exhange definitions, which are included in the cloud engines.

Per the Immunet forum, ClamAV for Windows 2.0 (based on Immunet 2.0) will be released soon. Also per their forum, ClamAV may be moving in a different direction in a later version.
