Regarding Chrome Stable channel and Strict Site Isolation:

So it seems that Strict Site Isolation has been enabled by default for Beta channel and is on track to be enabled by default for Stable channel with version 67.

I just want to report that I have enabled strict site isolation on 2 fast windows 10 machines (64 bit) for about a month now from memory, and on one machine I had to disabled it as it spikes the CPU (i7) to about 70% for a couple of minutes. It keeps doing it every 15-20 minutes or so. No problem with the other machine so far...

Alright already. You guys done thoroughly convinced me Chrome is worth all the effort.

Thanks for the nudge and additional catching up to be required on this end. Man this thing seems pretty smooth so far.

But the security being keypoint! You guys rock the socks off.

Try it again but also enable "Top document isolation"

It is performance and resource enhancing for "strict site isolation" If I understand right it does the following, which may fix your problem on the first machine.

So normally "Strict site isolation" I think makes every iframe have its own process.
"Top document isolation" if enabled alongside will share all the iframes for a tab in one process but still keep them separated from the primary page. So its a bit of a compromise, but still better than the default behaviour.

Okay thanks, I've enabled 'top document' isolation and see what happens. Mind you I don't understand what I'm doing, but if it improves Chrome's security without affecting its performance it is fine to have them enabled.

It is available as a flag:

I have it on the past few days and no issues personally, the best way to assess is to try it yourself, and observe the affect on your configuration.

I have Scrict Site Isolation enabled but not Top Document Isolation.
It is a "performance flag", so it might enhance the performance but i haven't tested it.

Thanks for the reply. I've had strict site isolation enabled for a while with no performance issues, so I'm going to leave Top Document Isolation off for the moment.

It definitely works, thanks. Even with 10 tabs opened there isn't any change to the CPU...

    "Chrome now blocks tab-under redirects
Of all the new features shipped with Chrome, probably the most important is a new security feature that now blocks tab-under redirects —when a web page opens links in new tabs and redirects the old tab to a new URL.

Tab-unders are used by malvertisers, but also by your regular advertisers as well, mainly because they bypass Chrome's built-in popup blocker and allow advertisers to open multiple tabs pushing unwanted products, services, or sites".
