    A vs B thread are not allowed.
    Figured I'd let you know before it got the hook.
    Not for nothing but I would choose vipre.

    A vs B is only prohibited for comparing antivirus apps. OP asked for a firewall comparison - this is NOT contrary to the rules AFAIK.

    I have never used the ESS FW. I did trial Vipre-Premium the other day. I was favorably impressed by the configurability of its FW (I am a tweak-freak) & by the clarity of its pop-up alerts.

    Bottom line: As between Vipre & Ess firewalls, I recommend Private FW. {Whoops! A bit OT there bellgamin :shifty: }

    My bad I thought it was any product. I wasn't aware that it was only AV's.

    What do you want in and from a firewall? That point is missing from your question. :doubt:

    Opinions are free and everyone has one. o_O

    vipre premium firewall = firewall + HIPS (detects code injection, etc...)

    ESS firewall = basic "meat and potatoes" firewall

    I've been trialing both recently and this is what I have noticed. Myself I prefer ESS over vipre. I'm getting to lazy in my old age to answer popups! ;)

    i mean only the firewall part for inbound protection, not HIPS etc. In which Firewall do we have more confident? Which one is more capable to block an attacker?

    Both have snort rules (IDS), so basically they are the same for inbound. If this computer is going to be used on a home network you really don't need this if you have a router installed and use windows own built in firewall. Basically a lot of users here use third party firewalls for outbound packet filtering. Not so much inbound protection.
