For select a full row of files its all that easy.
Select the first file, then hold down the shift key and click the last file !

The check boxes in Vista, make it easy to select the files you want out of a bunch and leave the others unselected, I find that very handy.

I know that. I mean when you want to delete 14 of 20 images for example.

IMHO, holding down the shift/ctrl key is faster than ticking the checkboxes.

I agree, however, I use them on my Vista laptop while I'm evaluating files as to whether I want to remove them or not. This includes reading and/or viewing them as I go.

That could be a pain if the ones you don't want to delete are scattered throughout.
You can do either or with check boxes.
