Getting my wife an mp3 player and most of my mp3 collection is in 192 or 162 and I want to compress them down to 128 on a folder by folder basis.

Any recommendations for such a tool - cheap or free ?

    Hello,
    VirtualDub can compress mp3, too.

If you run linux at all Nick -- soundKonverter 0.2Beta2 is a very nice frontend and works well

I tried a few windows apps, but generally I found the conversions much slower and there tended to be some quality issues whether it for some unknown reason smudged the sampling rate up and sometimes produced clipping - I wasn't impressed. I don't remember the apps name ATM, but it was a commercial 30 day trial.
