Someone must know how to do this.

When my new machine came from the shop, I changed the log-on
account name from the shop's name to mine. Fine.

But in task manager, Documents and Settings, and everywhere else
I look, the logged on user is still the shop's name. When I
try to rename the Documents & Settings folder to my log-on name,
Windows XP says that it is a system folder and cannot be changed.

How do I get rid of the computer shop name?

Go to Start/Run and type in "regedit" without the quotes (Win 2000 type "regedt32")

With Windows XP (and probably Win 2000) navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion

Click the "CurrentVersion" folder and look for the "RegisteredOwner" key. Double click and change the value to your name. You can also change the "RegisteredOrganization" if you want to.

    hth,

    Hi screamer

Thanks, but afraid it didn't work. I changed the "RegisteredOwner"
key as instructed, from the computer shop to my user name, rebooted,
checked the registry, and it took ok. But the logged-on user, is
still the computer shop. The RegisteredOrganization key was blank,
    so I left it alone.
