please help, i have a laptop computer, everytime i turn on it on, the CD-rom drawer keep opens, and you have to push closed at least 3 or 4 times before it stays shut. But if i put a CD or DVD in, the drawer opens at the same time when the CD or DVD is about to run on the system. Any help would be most grateful. Is this a software or a hardware problem?

    Thanks!

could be an intruder. any popup after the drawer opens
1-check for possible virus/spyware/malware etc. (its not a joke)
2-delete its driver and restart. Let windows re-installs it
    3-lens could be dirty
4-disable the CDROM in CMOS setup
5-it could be a drive malfunction.

(4 XP)keep pressing F8 just before the welcome screen then you enter the safe mode.
hijackthis. you can read about it later but for the timebeing download it and run it. click "do system scan and save a log file" the log file appears automaticaly in a notepad select all and copy the text then paste it in the textbox here

I wouldn't rely on any results you get at that site Hijackthis.de. It is full of false positives. All of the online auto Hijackthis scanners are known to be unreliable. You can REALLY SCREW UP YOUR COMPUTER if you delete anything that is a false positive, and not real malware.

It is ALWAYS better to post your Hijackthis log at a forum that has expert Hijackthis analyzers, who are 'real people', and can read your log and explain fully what you should and shouldn't delete from your computer.

Use the website Hijackthis.de AT YOUR OWN RISK! I would caution you to NEVER delete any malware detections you get at Hijackthis.de without first asking a qualified Hijackthis expert at a forum like http://www.dslreports.com/forum/security. At Dslreports they can help you with your Hijackthis log results. Best of luck.

    I agree...

It's imperative that u get expert help when it comes to HJT.

I for one wish that site posted above(http://www.hijackthis.de/) never existed.... I can just imagine how many people have mistakenly deleted entries and caused more problems than they already had.

    Just my .02 ;)

I have no knowledge of the .de forums not having browsed there but can attest to many "bogus" calls made by their online HJT service. Personally I find Help2Go's Detective far more accurate ... choosing NOT to identify "potentials" IMHO.

Wilder's own Tony Klein and Merijn himself are heavy contributers.

    Des,

As an "IMPORTANT" note ... make a folder for HJT on your hard drive, zip/extract to it before running. ;)
