My laptop's CD rom has stopped writing iso images successfully. It used to write them ok before, though some times toasting some cds( it was toasting some cds off and on since many months).
Every time i try to write, i get am error message like failed to complete successfully etc and even if no error message, the CD written by it wil not be readable correctly. CD rom wil read and boot older iso image CDs just fine.
Basically there is failure to write but read operation seems ok.
I mentioned iso images only as usually these are then only data that i write on CDs.

Does it mean i need to replace my CD Rom with a new one? Just want to be sure before i go for it.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

I agree, cleaning with a physical cleaning disk (even if software-operated) is the first thing to try.

Times have undoubtedly changed, but at one time most dealers and service techs agreed that the first sign a CD drive was starting to go bad was the tray not opening and closing properly.
