Note that on the builds page the portable is still downloading 5.92 and not the new 6 build.
Not sure how long that will be happening for and if it's anything to do with the new release which includes the new Performance Optimizer.

no need to go thru all that hassle. just download the installer and extract the exe using 7-zip or peazip. that said, i'd recommend you ditch this bloated piece of sw and start using wdc or r-w&c.

It took 7.5 years to upgrade from v5 to v6.
    v5.00.5050 (25 Nov 2014) -> v6.0.9727 (12 May 2022)

I think we all agree that CCleaner is not the software it used to be.
It's very bloated now with all the different 'solutions' that have been crammed into it.

Yah, but just use the portable version, block any outbound connections with your firewall and your good to go. I have yet to find a cleaner that works as good as this, has never let me down and this includes regular registry cleanings.

I know what you mean about the portable.
My post about the builds page was just a heads up on the fact that the portable build from that page is not showing the latest version.

True, but what I still like about it is, it's not too aggressive scanning compared to the competition. I remember some other similar programs were suggesting to 'clean' several GBs of 'unnecessary' stuff compared to CCleaner. I'm very conservative with these issues, aggressive cleanings could disrupt some the OS functions. I've also been using the portable version without any problems...

This. One thing that bugs me about Wise Disk Cleaner is that you first have to run a scan then again run a clean. It's not a single click. I sent them an email suggestion months ago to make it a single click to scan/clean but they just sent me the automated email thank you for your suggestion bla bla bla.

Is it possible that someone could tell me what wdc or r-w&c means?
I've searched everywhere, but I can't find anything meaningful.

There is a very good reason for this. Very often, registry cleaners will mistakenly think that some valid registry keys are errors and want to delete them. Deleting these valid registry keys will sometimes cause problems. If you manually look at the scan results, you can make sure that nothing needed will be deleted and uncheck anything you want to keep. On the plus side, Wise Registry Cleaner only has very occasional issues with false positives, which is a rarity.

However, usually there is no need to ever clean the registry. It is exceptionally rare for a registry cleaner to fix any issues you have with your computer and even rarer for a computer to run faster after cleaning the registry, no matter how many hundreds or thousands of so called registry errors are deleted. It's actually significantly more likely that a registry cleaner will cause issues rather than fixing them, considering that at least 99% of registry cleaner have issues with false positives.
WDC is Wise Disk Cleaner, an excellent free junk cleaner. R-W&C is R-Wipe & Clean, which isn't free, but I greatly prefer Wise Disk Cleaner.

umm, I was talking about the junk file cleaner not the registry cleaner. It does that for junk files. I certainly I'm not going to review thousands of junk files to make sure I want to delete them or not. I usually set my settings of what I want to be cleaned and just a click away from cleaning.

hi, collider. wdc is fine too but i especially recommend r-w&c. it's a paid product but it has a free version which is pretty sufficient for a regular user.

In my opinion this feature, which I don't think is available in CCleaner free, has some problems.
I would not trust using it.

I thought you were using the registry cleaner since that's what you mentioned. Wise Disk Cleaner is safe to use.
