Does anyone use the registry cleaner option?

Just started using ccleaner once again after a few yrs and don't recall if i used it or not in the past.

After scanning mine shows quite a few entries(activeX, invalid firewall rules, etc).

    Safe to use?

As safe as it can be. Make sure you keep backups of whatever removed

Unnecessary risks for very little, if any, rewards. Had file association problems, last time I tried (much worse can happen).

I don't think it's responsible to recommend people to use registry cleaners because you can break things.

But... if you're absolutely going to do it anyway, then it's helpful to recommend some reputable ones. In addition to CCleaner I trust Auslogics. Regarding the latter, just don't check either of the top 2 settings under "Scan settings".

They (Auslogics) make a good defragger as well. If they were to add a boot-time defrag I'd probably use it instead of Puran.

You are probably right. I just have this bugaboo about keeping things tidy. :D

After researching a little here yesterday, i also installed Puran as it seems highly regarded.

I DL the new Ver. 5.0.2.0718 Foxit Reader.
    I uninstalled the Old version.
I ran CCleaner. It found & cleaned 9 Reg Keys.
RegSeeker found & cleaned 15 Keys.
Eusing Free RC found & cleaned 2 Keys.
Wise RC found & cleaned 1 Key.

CCleaner found & cleaned 9 Keys but Left 18 Keys behind.

I think I get Your Drift. The Keys I counted were related to the old Ver. of Foxit Reader. The new Ver. is Alive & Well.

I'd search the registry (and hard drive) myself if I want to remove all traces of the program.

I like running a registry cleaner after uninstalling programs. It usually cuts down on the number of registry entries that have to be manually removed. However, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner has worked better for me than CCleaner for this purpose. I always make a backup of course before running any registry cleaner.

Use it all the time, never had a serious problem. The only issue I ever had
was lost file association for a video player. Easily fixed by using the backup.

There are much more accurate Registry Cleaners than the one of CCleaner. ;)

Yes, that is why CCleaner is so safe to use and the others are not. ;)

There's a program made by a brazilian called MV RegClean. He won many rewards and I never had any kind of problem using it. Anyway, I've read many cases of people having trouble after cleaning the reg.

Atm, I'm only using Ccleaner, because it's probably the safest. :ninja:
