For the first time in a really long time I started my android phone, updated it and all applications. I used to use CCleaner but it is basically useless now and shows annoying ads. Is there a better free alternative that actually works, without ads?

    Android version = 6.0.1

    Thanks.

SD Maid for Android is very good, there is like most applications, the free and paid versions.

I also recommend SD Maid. It has not ads and works very well. It can clean even more junk on a rooted device, but your phone does have to be rooted to use it.
You can pay a few dollars to upgrade to the Pro version, which has some more features.

Power Clean, is also a very good cleaner, but it does have ads, which can be annoying.

The Android version of CCleaner is not very good in my opinion (I don't use the PC version either).

My cleaning is simply to clean the cache from Settings. The size of the cache can be 1 GB or more. SD Maid doesn´t clean it.

A lot of people don't like it. But, I've used it in the past and haven't got anything bad to say about it, aside from the ads. I use the PC version on my laptop.

Having tested many different cleaning apps, they just about all are fairly similar in my experience. There are three that stand out in my opinion:
    SD Main
    Power Clean
    Powerful Cleaner.

All-In-One Toolbox (and SD Maid Free) it's a decent one, althought it has some ads it's not as pervasive as in CCleaner and similar cleaning apps, it got a 3.8 risk score in SRT Privacy inspector which again in comparisoin with other similar apps is relatively low.

True, they need to improve the startup manager.

I'm trying Norton Clean. It's pretty basic but it's free and has no ads.

Trying this now as the last update to Norton Clean stopped cleaning anything.

Norton's cleaner caused issues for me. It cleaned some needed app data, which required me to reinstall one of my apps to get it working again. I've never had anything like that happen with other cleaning apps.

 That's not good. I've been using it since I posted above and had no trouble at all with Norton Clean until this latest update.
