I have been having a lot of problems with Internet explorer just freezing up, and especially any Google search would just die. I downloaded Ad-aware and ran it as per the instructions from a post by LowWaterMark on Nov 5, 2003. I then used Highjackthis, and this was the results from the log file:

    Hi slik_1967,

    Welcome to Wilders.

Ad-Aware seemed to get rid of the majority of your problems.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {71ED4FBA-4024-4bbe-91DC-9704C93F453E} - (no file)

Download CWShredder and run. Be sure ALL other windows are closed use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    Regards,
    Kent

    and sort out this entry

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = proxy.prod.quest.corp:xxxx

if you are using a proxy, you need a port set, if it's an edit to hide the port number OK , but make sure in the connection settings, otherwise you will have connection problems

Thanks for your help so far.
So I removed the BHO entry as indicated below, ran CWShredder (with no errors), rebooted, and ran Highjackthis. The log is below. BTW, I xxxx'd the port number on purpose.

Also wondering if there is any way to permanently get rid of the CasProg entry in my Add/Remove Programs. Thanks again for all your help.

    Hi slik_1967,

Copy the part in bold below, save it as uninstcasprog.reg
and doubleclick that file when you are done.
Confirm you want to merge it with the registry when prompted.

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\CasProg]

It may require a reboot, but then CasProg should be gone in Add/Remove Software.

    Regards,

    Pieter
