I am in a spot. Spent hours trying to install Ubuntu on this machine. Any advice
appreciated. This is the troublesome culprit. I partitioned beforehand but no luck.

Of course it won't work, duh.
The processor is what, 8bit? Theoretically one could (maybe) port the kernel and write drivers but come on, the 8088 is from 1979, Linux is about 22 years younger.
