Can't get my desktop back after virus removal

First I see only wallpaper on start up. Can't open any antivirus pogram with task manager even in safe mode but can open browser. Download AVAST and removed a ton of additional viruses with both boot scan and normal scan. Still can't open prevx and see only wallpaper. restart computer and get the preboot 'CHKDSK' function opening and running spontaneously. After this the computer boots up and I see the prevx installer window asking me to re-install prevx, which I did, and then had to re-enter license. Now it appears prevx will run normally but still no normal desktop. Not sure how to get it back.
System is AMD 3800 dual core running win XP home. Prevx 3.0

Also to add what Hogndog said please do a system scan by clicking "Scan Now" on the front screen of Prevx 3.0 and then save the scan log by clicking on Tools - Save Scan Results. Then, please send the scan log by e-mail at report@prevxresearch.com explaining the problem with the link to this thread!

Download & run Malwarebytes anti-malware, which should finalise the cleaning.
