    Hi,

My sister is haveing a problem with her computer. She is haveing major porn pop ups! Her home page is always on about blank, no matter if she changes it! She can't visit Yahoo sites. She could not dl spybot SD from download.com nor AVG, nor ADaware, the page does not pull up. Instead she sees an error message, I think she said the page said something about administrative rights and something about roots. (i do not have access to her pc) and I'm not sure she'd come here directly herself...so if you could maybe share some things with me I could email the posts to her. I do not know how to send spybot, avg, or adaware by allowing her to click a link and downloading it like that automatically. I appreciate all the help I can get on this one!!
Also she has no anti virus, spware protection and I dont know about the firewall. Her husband has dont 3 system restores.
They have Windows XP Home SP2 thank you all

Geez, nothing at all? Well, take a look at the software page in my sig again, there is a tool for removing about:blank adware. Then she can choose some other stuff to help protect the system, she can always post here at Wilders with any questions :) I believe that this is sometimes caused by CoolWebSearch, which can be a real pain to get rid of, so you might want to have her download and run CWShredder, as well.

Can she get her e-mail? If so you could download and e-mail her.

In your initial post you said you would e-mail posts to her (hence the question about e-mailing programs to her)

If she can't get onto the internet to download programs or get e-mail, then all you can do is download the tools Notok suggested and burn them onto cd and sent it in the post. If that's going to take too long then all she can do is reformat and reinstall.

Can't see any other way around it.

Smokie, your sister's middle name isn't lucky by any chance? Only kidding.

Tell her to guess a date when the problems started. She should do a system restore to a date prior to the date she guessed.

To do a system restore she should:

    1. Click the green start button (bottom left of the screen)
    2. Click run (towards the bottom right of the menu)
    3. In the small window that appears type in the box

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

    4. Click OK
    5. Click next

This will bring up a window that has a calendar and some of the dates will be bold.

    6. Click on a bold date that is prior to the date she guessed earlier.
    7. Click next
    8. Click next

Let the computer do its business. It will shut down and restart. When it restarts, the computer may ask if you want to accept the restore point (I can't remeber exactly what happens but she'll work it out).

Hopefully, her computer will be back to a state where she can access the internet. If she can, then follow the advice in Notoks post. If the computer is still no good, then I'll have to give up. She will have to get a friend who knows about computers to help her.
