I am so new to all of this, any info or advice will be most appreciated.
I just downloaded SpywareGuard and Blaster yesterday. I have three questions:
    1. I don't know if it's working so well, that i can't logon to the websites that I WANT to visit. The programs have helped alot but, i think it's stopping me completely from browsing and I don't know what to do. Is there any way to configure it so that I can at least visit my favorite sites? I tried changing the settings in Internet Tools, as far as the ActiveX controls and individual cookie handling, but that didn't help.
    2. Are Spyware Guard/Blaster supposed to stop pop-ups too? I get blasted with several of them simultaneously when I first log on.
    3. I was using Ad Aware previously, should I delete that now? Will my computer be harmed or the Spyware Guard/Blaster be affected if I don't?
Please help, I can't even check my email.

Hi edmondsm, and welcome to Wilders.

Have you looked for the site you're having problems reaching, in the "Restricted Sites" Block List in SpywareBlaster? Can you post here what sites you are having trouble with. That might help us figure out what's being blocked.

AdAware works differently than SpywareBlaster, so you don't want to uninstall your spyware removal program. AdAware will scan, detect, and remove spyware when you run it, whereas, SpywareBlaster works more on a preventative basis preventing the running of spyware related Active X controls, along with also blocking a list of known spyware realted cookies and sites in IE6. Since SpywareBlaster is not a 'scanner', you only have to open it about once a week to check for updates; once updated, then you can close it and your protection is in place.

SpywareGuard will detect and block popups and will alert you to prevent installation of spyware. If you are receiving popups, it might be something newer that SpywareGuard isn't detecting yet. It's hard to say unless we know what kind of pop-ups you are getting.

You've mentioned using AdAware, but didn't say if it was the most recent version or an older version? If it is an old version, it is recommended to update to the new version which you can find here: Ad-AwareSE. You could also give Spybot Search & Destroy a try too, and see if it detects anything more. Both AdAware & Spybot Search & Destroy work well together and both are excellent spyware removing programs.

Also, are you using any other security programs, like IE-Spyad, or an antivirus program that uses a pop-up stopper?

If you could answer those few questions above, it might give us a better idea of what could be causing your problems reaching your favourite pages. :)

    Regards,

    snap
