I need to change password, but I see a key icon locking me out of anything to do with password. I am in Admin account. What is going on? Win 11/Home.

Just in case it's anything to do with your profile, try making a new user account, make it an admin, boot into it and see if the padlock is gone then.
If not just delete the new account.

Just a thought... is your activation broken? That would limit access to some of the settings.

@stapp Made no difference. Thanks for responding.
@xxJackxx Activation seems to be in order. I do not have an account set up with them as I use Home edition. Maybe something around that is causing my problem.

Maybe. Is UAC on? Does it need elevation and failing to prompt? If that happens make sure there is not a sound associated with that event. I don't know if they fixed that bug but I am betting they didn't. If the file is missing or corrupt the prompt never comes.

Good to know Jack. Made no difference with my problem, but thanks. Any other thoughts? BTW I got the free upgrade to Win 11 awhile ago. Might that have something to do with it?

Key .png OK Configure defender was one of my first thoughts. I turned it back to default and nothing changed.

@Brummelchen When I first received this PC Windows 11 was installed and all I did was to plug it in and turn it on. I don't think I ever set up an account. My version is Home and I didn't think I had to. Should I set one up. Don't like that idea, but if I need to I need to. I am having the same lock out problem with 'Sign-in options' as seen by following your link instructions.

Would it be possible to post the properties of that key shortcut (right-click, properties)? Minus any personal info that it may contain of course. It might be helpful to know what that points to.

@Rainwalker A stab in the dark, but I'd be concerned about that pairing of OSArmor and VS on any operating system, let alone Windows 11.
With all the 3rd party apps I'm running, I'll chill for maybe another year before I commit to Windows 11 based on my paranoia of compatibility issues and the potential ensuing ramifications.

Well, I run Windows 11 and VS with no issue at all. I wouldn't think twice about that. I would, however, pick either VoodooShield or OSArmor. You shouldn't use both, as they are very similar and overlap.

@Brummelchen Tweaked? Not sure. This is not an upgrade. New PC with Win 11.
@xxJackxx Right click shows no properties.
@Lagavulin16 No argument there. I thought about Win 10 or 11 before reluctantly going with 11. Should have hung in there with 10.
@n8chavez I removed VS. Made no difference. Problem still persists.

@Rainwalker My guess is that you were on Win 10 and seduced by the Windows control panel Settings-- Update and Security-- to pull that trigger and upgrade to Win 11. Thought about it myself countless times and heeded to that intuitive STOP reflex!
I've occasionally freaked out when I could've sworn I keyed in the correct password and the app in question begged to differ. (Okay, let's try this again r e a l s l o w t h i s t i m e.) I can only imagine your agony of being locked out of all password associated accounts/apps.
As a last resort, check out if you have access to a nearby uBreakiFix repair shop. In my neighborhood their prices can't be beat. It goes without saying I wish you the best.
