Hi @ Wilders Can request some help please. I used to be able to create a repair Disk from within Windows 10. Now for some reason I cannot. When booting from the repair Disk (CD) it hangs. Checking Media Presence Media present Start PXE over IPv 4 Then it does the same with IPv6 and then nothing happens. MORE INFO I can create Win PE Rescue Media using Macrium Reflect. (CD) I CANNOT Create Rescue Media with Aomei Backupper (CD) I Can create CD Rescue Media using PE Builder by Aomei. All the CD's are from the same batch. Any suggestion to remedy the issues described above? Thank you Terry
Terry, Are you selecting the UEFI CD choice from the BIOS Boot menu? Or are you letting the CD boot on its own?
Hi Brian K Well what a surprise! So short a time after our last encounter. I just wonder of the previous and the current problem are linked. 1) With the current set up I used to be able to create a repair disk from within Windows. When that Changed I don't know. 2) I pressing F8 when I boot and selecting the CD/DVD 3) The CD does not boot on its own, hence the reason for 2) above. Thank again Terry
Do you see one or two entries for the CD in the F8 menu? Does a Win10 DVD boot from the F8 menu? Or any other bootable media? Optical or USB?
Hi Brian K 1) Just one entry for CD in F8 menu 2) I don't have a Win 10 DVD installation DVD. But I created a recovery USB from within Windows (Not repair) that boots. Also Macrium Reflect Rescue CD that boots. Also Win PE Bootable Media CD by Aomei PE Builder 2.0. Also Todo Backup Recovery 2022 USB. All show in the F8 menu if they are plugged into the PC. All boot. If they are not plugged in they are not shown in the F8 menu. Terry
Hi Brian K Thanks for helping me again. No, as I explained in my opening post I cannot create a REPAIR CD from within Windows 10. Via Backup & Restore (Windows 7) from Control Panel. I can however create a RECOVERY USB from within Windows 10. In addition I cannot create a RESCUE MEDIA CD with Aomei Backupper. The process fails! When I look at previous REPAIR CD's I have made on this PC, the size appear to be 460 mb. I have recently made six attempts to produce a REPAIR CD using CD's and DVD's all of them are 458 mb. I don't know whether this is of any consequence. The collation and burning process seem to complete OK. They just will not boot. Hope this helps Terry
Hi Brian K I think I might have solved my problems, although I am not entirely sure why. Dealing with the creation of a Repair Disk in Windows 10 using a CD first. Prior to asking for help on Wilders I had tried to use sfc /scannow (System File Checker) and DISM Restore Health to determine if there were any problems. There were none indicated. Since you became involved I tried again with DISM Restore Health last night. It said that the operation completed successfully. So I tried again to create a Boot CD through Windows. This time it worked using F8 and selecting CD/DVD from the boot menu. Since then I have made several CD and DVD boot Disks. So it is repeatable. Was it DISM, who knows? I am aware that sometimes you are advised to make more than one pass using SFC or DISM. Turning now to Aomei Backupper Boot Media. Previously I have always used a CD to produce a Boot disk. When I checked the CDs that I burned nothing had been burned to the disk. Aomei Backupper reported a failure to create the CD. I then decided to create an ISO within Aomei (instead of direct to CD) which was created OK. I then burned it to CD with AnyBurn this also failed BUT the burning software indicated there were not enough blocks on the CD. So I tried again with a DVD via an ISO, same method. It worked and booted. So I created another DVD this time within Backupper but creating a DVD. It worked and booted, Conclusion My Aomei Backupper is a new version. I cannot use CD’s any more because a CD is not big enough and a DVD is needed. I will keep an eye on it for the time being. Many thanks again for your help and prompting on ideas. Terry
