I know I can check for new mail on their server but once I open it it's gone. I was wondering if I can set the same account that I use on the desktop on my notebook, be it Thunderbird or Windows Mail?

You mean, being able to check it on a second PC without deleting it from the POP server, so it's still there when you pull it down to your main PC?

It all depends upon being able to configure your email client to not delete the message on the server when its accessed. Many clients allow that in advanced configuration options.

OE for example has the option in the Accounts management screen...

The best option would be forwarding the mails from this account to a mail box which supports IMAP access.
