Been testing. I can take 3 differentials. Delete no. 1, and still take a 4 Differential. BUT.... when I go to restore it says a file is missing, and I haven't been able to get by that. Ideas? Pete
That makes little sense to me with Differentials. BUT, 2017 comes with some fabulous NEW imaging features ... Acronis Active Protection - a brand new anti-RansomeWare solution to protect your files as well its backup images Acronis Notary - insures that the backup files have not been changed by anything using an implementation of BlockChain Technology (same as BitCoin) to protect those files in the image Acronis ASign - the ability of multiple users to digitally sign documents already in the backup image. Possibly one of these HOT new imaging features is affecting the ability of your restoration to restore a single FULL image followed by a single DIFFERENTIAL image. Maybe a little more BETA time was needed...
...or possibly, those new differentials are really DIFFEROMENTALS (INCERENTIALS?), a new secret hybrid imaging technology taking the imaging industry by storm (and its users by the... well, you know).
I guess I should apologize to the Forum for my above posts... but when I went and looked at the new release of TRUE IMAGE, I really couldn't stop laughing. An imaging program that offers anti-RansomeWare protection pushed me over the edge. With all the bloat that's been added to this product since Echo v9.1, I'm convinced that this company has no idea what it wants to be when it finally does grow up.
ROFL. I loved your posts. They highlighted the shear stupidity of what Acronis is doing. I only use it from the RE USB key.
That's what makes no sense. The Recovery Media should be nothing more than its most basic self... allowing recovery and possibly imaging. In DIFFERENTIAL imaging (the method that we all know), I can think of absolutely no reason a restoration task would require anything more that the differential time point being requested and the full image that it's a child of, regardless of the sequence of differential images taken. How can you ever clean up if it requires them all? You might need to spend some additional time in the User's Manual to make sure all needed CheckBoxes are either checked or unchecked.
With Acronis under the ATI Recovery. It is a bloated goat if you install it, and 80% of it stuff they want to sell you. I think Acronis is working hard to move down the list.
I upgraded to 2017, on two machines! It is very bloated, but I did manage to do an image restore from an incremental using the boot disk the other day. It has saved me in days of yore - but also borked my systems before. But in future my backup backups (to Macrium) will be AOMEI Backupper (for which I also have licenses) and maybe Drive Snapshot. IFW sounds more like for those who know what they are doing!
Hi Paul I've been able to do what you describe no problem, but what I am specifically talking about here is a chain of differentials where you want to clean out early ones. Whole different ball park. Pete
Maybe that would be a good product for AX64 LLC to develop... the world's very first laxative for an imaging program.
This is not a problem new to 2017. I have been randomly having this issue for years. Most of the time differentials worked fine, but occasionally after having deleted some it tells me files are missing when it should not work that way. It is the largest reason I dumped it.
Pete, I downloaded the Acronis TI 2017 ISO and made a boot disk. After finding the monkeys I eventually created 3 diffs, not incrementals. S1, S2, S3 and S4. S1 was the full image. S2 and S3 were deleted. A restore was attempted but it kept saying S2 and S3 were missing. Could you do a restore of a diff?
Yes. What you have to do is click cancel on the message. Might take a couple of clicks. Then if you have more then one drive you have to do the clicking for each drive. Eventually it goes ahead and restores. Those aren't monkey's but the south end of a north bound horse. Compared to IFW, which just worked.
The horse has disappeared, but just wondering ... Did you delete the diffs through in ATI or in Explorer. Maybe one doesn't get the messages if the former? It shouldn't be an issue with diffs though. Though I presume both of you did it through ATI.
