    You can install a extension (plugin) like this :
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...st-vpn/fdcgdnkidjaadafnichfpabhfomcebme?hl=en

    That's not the way it works. With a VPN, you're required to use a TAP adapter. It's another network adapter, created by the VPN, through which ALL traffic is funneled. There is really only one way to use a VPN on-demand. That requires using a VPN that offers split-tunneling. In that setting you could exclude the programs you do not want. There is also the option to use a socks5 proxy, which is separate from a VPN and does not create the adapter. If you use that you could set up each application you want to use that socks5 address.

    Well, no. The best way accomplish what you're wanting to do is by using either a VPN with split-tunneling or a socks5 proxy server and per-app-configuration. Any service that offers one, or both, would be what you want.

    I do not. I have no reason to want to exclude anything from the VPN. I'm using Mullvad, which does offer split-tunneling. But I don't use that feature.

    I do trust Mullvad. They've been proven in court that they are secure and private.

    Totally agree with you if you want to be "full" VPN (no dns leaks, strong firewall, TAP adaptater, split tunneling, kill switch.....)

    @mantra
    I just answer to your question, but no i use IVPN on Debian since almost ten years now and i never used any VPN extensions.

    IVPN is also very good. I have active subscriptions for it and Mullvad.

    Normally Mullvad and IVPN are fast
    Uhm, never tested some free VPN (sometimes your personal data are sold).
    You should Trial a paid one like https://windscribe.com/knowledge-base/articles/can-i-get-a-pro-trial-for-free
    I will not recommand express vpn (sold to Kape Technologie with bad past activity)
    This one also https://www.cyberghostvpn.com/en_US/vpn-free-trial seems ok
    There are many other with trial periods.

    Never use a free VPN. If you are not paying from a service, you are the service being sold.
