I have Bit Defender pay version, and Ewido. At the present time the update server for BD is having problems.
Will Ewido, pay version, do a reasonable job of AV protection or is an AT good only for trojans?

I guess the fact that my BD AV is not updated for a day or so is not too serious, but am curious if there is some overlap between AV and AT.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Only for trojans,( and some other malware ) not for viruses.
You should be okay if it is for a day or so. The overlap is that many of the commercial AV programs can detect trojans, some better than others.

So, overall, an AV will cover both viruses and trojans ( and other malware ) but an AT will cover mainly trojan detection only.

At the present time, never trust your AT program for virus detection.

    Btw. old-style viruses (file-infectors) are almost gone (< 5%) ;)

    Thanks.
    My AV is now updated.
Before the update it caught two of the Bagle virus trying to come in my email.
