    Hello mantra,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Partition and Disk Managing Software.

Please be aware that we do not recommend to erase/delete the content of MBR of your hard drive. In case you want to remove the bootloader (e.g. of a Linux) from the MBR then all you need to do is to fix the MBR. You can use one of the ways of MBR fixing described in Acronis Help Post.

Actually, your hard drive will become unusable without MBR on it.

    Thank you.

    Hello mantra,

Please be aware that Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 does not allow you to erase the MBR completely, but you can use Acronis Disk Editor for this purpose. Please be aware that there is no such option similar to "Remove MBR", but you can erase the content of the sector 0-0-1 where MBR resides.

Please also note that we are strongly recommend not to erase the content of MBR. It is better to fix MBR as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

    Thank you.

I have disk director 9 (and disk editor)
can I erase sector(s) with disk editor 9?
Can disk editor write '0' or '1' or random patterns to a drive, to erase it totally?

Also, as I have not worked with disk director much; can I boot from cd with this to get Disk Editor also?
(comfortable with erasing/destroying drives, but new to disk director, but very comfortable with acronis TrueImage)
    thanks
    Nick

    Hello Nick,

Acronis Disk Director Suite 9.0 contains Acronis Disk Editor as well.

You'll be able to boot from Acronis Disk Director Suite 9.0 bootable media, launch Acronis Disk Editor and erase MBR.

Acronis Disk Editor doesn't have an option to use random pattern to overwrite MBR, you might be interested in Acronis Drive Cleanser which can securely wipe entire hard drive or individual partitions.

    Thank you.

    Hello mantra,

The mbrautowrite program rewrites the MBR of the hard drive which is set as the bootable one in BIOS. Other hard drives stay untouched.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

    Thank you.

    Hello mantra,

    Thank you for the suggestion.

We will forward it to our Development Team and probably this feature will be implemented in future versions of Acronis Disk Director Suite.

    Thank you.
