what IS this? this icon was recently placed on my desktop. AAAAARRRRGGGGGH!!!!

another question: can someone indicate to me how i'm to know that sites i'm told to go to by admin's, moderators, other members are safe? many of them suggest downloading some OTHER (beyond the arsenal of spywareblasters, adware killers, AV's, firewalls, etc., i'm already using) software (e.g. a2, or to go to newdotnet to download some other .exe i know little about). incidentally i went to the newdot site when more dubious stuff was placed on my machine (past the firewall, spywareblaster, high IE security settings, etc.).

for over a month now my machine's been plagued by hijacks, trojans, i don't know what else and nothing i do seems to help! maybe someone can suggest something more drastic (like recommendation of a reinstallation of OS etc. or something short of it, prefereably)?

    thanks yet again!

    Hi username,

I am not exactly sure what you are implying (or maybe I am), or why you are starting a New Topic in the same forum that is for helping members clean their systems of malware.

At the moment, you have an existing and active thread here in this forum, to which I have given you instructions for removing the New.Net safely from your computer, and also replied that I would have one our Experts look at your existing thread:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=188385

To start a New Topic here in this forum (the spyware, adware, hijack cleaning forum) will not get you replies from other members as per our Posting Policy for this specific forum: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=32172

Replies to this forum is restricted to the thread starter (Registered Member of the thread), Wilders Staff, Security Experts, Windows Experts, Spyware Experts and Spyware Fighters.

If you have an issue with the way the forum is set up, or how instructions are given to Members who request assistance in removing the spyware/malware from their computer, you can start a New Topic in another part of the board.
For example, the General Topics forum is for board related issues:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5

Please keep in mind, we are all here on a voluntary basis trying to help you clean your system, and at no time do we insist that you do anything you are not comfortable doing or following.

    Regards,

    snap

We can't say what that is without more information. You still have questions pending over in this other thread, as well as instructions for additional clean up steps. If you aren't going to follow-up on your own threads, then don't expect to ever make any progress cleaning your system.

Stick with this thread until it is done:

You have or had New.Net on your system... the standard procedure for removal is to first use it's own removal procedures - that's the way this is done. Our people gather the best instructions for system cleaning from across many experts forums and use that information to help people who's systems are infected get cleaned up.

How do you know these instructions or recommended sites are safe? Well, you came here asking for our advice, either you follow it or you don't. The choice is yours. What could I possibly say here in this reply that would make you trust us more than you do (or don't) now? This is all just words anyways. Feel free not to avail yourself of this site and our advice if you want. There are plenty of other sites like this out there.

You were given specific a link and even an additional reference site for researching. What did you do when you got there? Did you read the referenced site information? Have you followed all the advice that has been given in your other thread and replied there?

If you'll follow through with the instructions given in your other thread and reply with specific feedback, and post the logs requested, the advisors here will let you know if you can salvage your current system installation or if reformatting will be needed - but you need to follow through!

Now, I'm closing this thread because I want you to go back to the first thread and finish there. Read the last set of advice - follow it all and post a new log if requested.
