    Earth .... occasionally
    Indeed it does !

Another weapon to add to the arsenal .

Have you tried it yet ?

Is it a replacement for GWX Control Panel , or best used in conjunction with it ?

That is a matter of opinion.

I guess you both mean that Windows 10 is great? (Or perhaps your opinion is great.)
But what about Microsoft's policy of pushing Windows 10 to Windows 7/ 8.1 users who don't want it (yet)?
Anyhow, I doubt if this has much to do with Bork Tuesday.

I mean to say is great news now that M$ pushes its Win10 as recommended not important update. I believe it's less aggressive and system invasive. For the record I don't like Win10 so far, let's talk in one year from now.
In general, I hate M$'s policy pushing tactics...
Agreed, nothing to do with bork updates whatsoever.

As Microsoft announced on October 29, 2015, the plan was to re-categorizing Windows 10 from "Optional Update" to "Recommended Update", early this year. So that is what Microsoft did, but it is not less aggressive or system invasive than what Microsoft announced on October 29.

Anyone who has "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" enabled (which is default with a "Use recommended settings" Windows installation) will have the upgrade to Windows 10 offered the same way as important updates - checked for installation by default.

    And probably it's even worse.
As user Choi found out and posted at the Dutch Security.NL, even with "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" disabled, the upgrade to Windows 10 is checked for installation by default!
I think that is rather terrible.
For the Upgrade to Windows 10 offer, Microsoft seems to ignore a disabled "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates".

I have the same settings, but additionally I have applied DisableOSUpgrade = 1
Because of that, I don't get the upgrade to Windows 10 offered by Windows Update.

I think this means that setting DisableOSUpgrade = 1 is the only way not to have the upgrade to Windows 10 offered and checked for installation by default.

If that's true, then that is pretty bad on MS's part. I always have "Give me recommended..." unchecked in Win 7. Same in Win 8.1. I hope it doesn't ignore that in the 8.1 machine that I am maintaining for my mother.. That would destroy her machine..

Do you know when this happened (how long ago)? Maybe MS has changed what they do by now?

    That was three hours ago.

But things are different than Choi and I thought.
I noticed something in this image that Choi provided:
    http://i.imgur.com/gUvM1bK.png
"Upgrade to Windows 10" was not offered as recommended update (which are in italics),
but it was offered as an optional update (not in italics).
But it was checked for installation, nevertheless.

So, Choi's Windows Update settings were not ignored, but "Upgrade to Windows 10" was checked for installation by default, which shouldn't.
This looks a lot like the issue we had last October, Windows 10 upgrade installing automatically on some Windows 7, 8 systems.
    What a mess! :(

Yep, what a mess, if that happens to others then that's terrible. I guess everyone running 7/8.1 need to be extra vigilant now..

Plug will be pulled in 2020 - at least that's what MS is saying.

Practically speaking, this is true. I personally have left 7 behind after several recent attempts at doing a clean install and failing. Time to move on. I have a 10 image here that I use and call Neutered 10, I straight-jacketed 10 as much as possible with O&O's Shutup10 and further alterations of my own in settings. It seems to work pretty well, and once you nail it down, it settles down pretty good and acts a lot like 7. I also have several Linux images that I use regularly as well, mostly Debian, Ubuntu and Mint at the moment. So I use what I please from moment to moment, but the bottom line is, I have taken 7 off my list, and just can't go there anymore. It's an absolute sin what MS has done to 7 and 8.1 users, but it is what it is. Might as well face it, at least for me, 7 is gone...

Yeah, if you have 7 now and everything is working fine, then no rush. But the inevitable is coming.... :)
