Thanks JR. Funny thing is I just deleted my post about it because I found the 3-versions discussion of this KB in the No more individual patches for Window 7 and 8.
I'll just sit on these updates for a while. There are 3 for my Windows 7: .Net KB4514602, Quality kb4516065 and this KB4474419.
I might go for the catalog version, I had to do that in April. What a mess :)

FWIW: A death by a thousand cuts best describes the state of Windows patching in 2019. Lingchi is back!

W7 is already on death row so there is no need to torture it so. W10 should be 99.9% stable to be classed a 'service' and Patch Tuesday should not be a whack a mole exercise for users and tech support alike. Microsoft has been at Windows for 50 years so they should be aware that the key to quality is professionalism. :doubt: We who use Windows are in a quandary.

You say you looked in Windows Updates history, did you also look in Programs and Features in the Control Panel?
On the left side there should be 'View Installed Updates'.
    Does it show anything?

It is more likely there, than not. Answer Stapp's question first and if there is nothing there, you could try this ...

    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc

    Run as administrator.

stapp, emmjay thanks for your replies. i'm 72 and went into panic mode when this happened. i've since calmed down and did check installed updates and all are still there including the 3 sept updates. it just wiped my view update history page and now i have the red x and the check for updates. i installed all three updates separately so i have 3 restore points. would a system restore bring back my view installed updates page? thanks

The main thing is that you can see which updates you have installed (which you can)
I doubt if system restore will be worth doing as you will then have to install those updates again.

stapp, i'm now being offered kb3138612 and i checked and do not have this installed. i googled this and it seems it for speeding up win7 update. i never had a problem with windows update until this last one. also read that kb3145739 replaces 3138612 and i do have kb3145739 installed on 4/16/2016. this last update (sept)kb4474419 has really messed with windows update. i'm just going to hide kb3138612. thanks for your help.

Hopefully one of the other members who are running Windows 7 will chime in here about this update topo.

    I am on Windows 10.

It's a catalog only update, meaning it must be downloaded and installed manually.

Microsoft does this regularly. Lately the catalog only update also gets moved to the optional update (seeker) function of WU.

    Cumulative Updates for Windows 10 1903 18362.357

Install in the following order for offline/clean installations

    Code:
    1) SSU (Servicing Stack Update) KB4515383 = http://download.windowsupdate.com/d..._33a465dd17f198241e23e286ee7565c3c28b2f9d.msu

    2) CU (Cumulative Update) KB4522016 = http://wsus.ds.download.windowsupda..._c348c949121cdc6c4defacee70d6060ebb0d8442.msu

    3) .NET Framework Cumulative Update KB4514359 = http://download.windowsupdate.com/d..._9c7a50db81b8b842e1f68eb69b386f0b3612823c.msu

    4) Adobe Flash Player Update KB4516115 = http://download.windowsupdate.com/d..._1a640406e356d564d40121700fed9adc048b87e9.msu

    5) Microcode Update KB4497165 = http://download.windowsupdate.com/c..._e92ee95ee2475f99cf927e20f20c8c0cb746e897.msu

Checking my Win Update install history; items 1, 3, 4, and 5 were installed last Bork Tuesday. So if this applies to one's current Win Update status, only item 2 needs to be installed. Also item 2 can be downloaded from the Microsoft catalog web site.

Yes number 2 was released today and is just a small security fix for Internet Explorer. Doesn't hurt to install it.

It will come some time in the future if you wait in some other cumulative update but I prefer to install these out of schedule updates on the spot. I've been lucky enough to have never had a problem with any Windows update.

same here, I had confidence it would install without issues because it was the same as last week's Cumulative update but only has this new Internet Explorer security flaw fix.

    Regards

I have Windows Update turned off. Sometimes i get updates anyway like a few weeks ago and again today. I restarted for the first time in a few days because of high page file on my gadget. Restart started to config ms update at 100% but never finished. So i restarted and it froze at 35% config, so i restarted in safe mode and it froze at waiting and never booted. Restarted again with networking and it said something about the update failure and would revert to previous state. It them restarted and booted normal. I don't know what that update was and if it will happen again.

Installed from catalog too, for 64 bit 1903. It was 260.8 MB, more than I expected. It went thru which is good since I'd shut off IE11 in Programs and Features. Now for that Windows Defender patch and if it's being delivered via a definition update.

Edit: Disk Cleanup is showing 2.66 GB to clean up from a 260 MB update. Same deal if you go to Storage via Settings. Wow.
