Yes, that was in July, and he addresses that in the article. But he gives no explanation how he learned what's in the September's patch.
As I see it, it's just a claim.

EDIT: Alright, maybe I'm pushing it. We can safely assume that he installed the update and checked for himself.

I am aware of this abbod guy there and already saw that discussion. No mention of latest patch for W7/8 there yet. I don't see that anyone installed it and reported that the 3 tasks were reenabled.
Woody usually supports his claims by hotlinking to similar discussions where users report the issues, however this time he didn't - he just puts the claim there. Now, the claim is most likely correct, but nevertheless.
    Yes, I know i'm nitpicking.

wolfrun, as I understand it in the article, KB4516033 is the trigger. I really don't know if it's being offered now, because I don't check for updates until the last possible moment.

@JR Thanks. Anyway this time I installed the rollup KB4516065 and not the security only patch which I normally do instead of the rollups.

I told David Byrne I was done waiting, created a fresh Macrium Reflect image, and took the plunge.

So far so good on one 7x64 machine, and the other is installing updates right now.

I checked all of the telemetry tasks that I had previously disabled (AITAgent, ProgramDataUpdater, Consolidator, KernelCeip and UsbCeip) and their settings had not been changed. Same for deselecting participation in Customer Experience Improvement Program.

I always reinstall Chrome when I run Windows Update, so did that too.

Sorry, I was just trying to be clear on which exact KBs did you install.

Sure. In addition to a handful of Office, Outlook and Word security updates, I installed the Monthly Quality Rollup for Win 7x64 (KB4516065), the Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830), a SHA-2 code signing support update (KB4474419) and a servicing stack update (KB4516655) that did not appear until after the other updates had been installed and I reran the update check.

    Right.
If you look a couple of posts above you'll see that KB4516033 was pointed at by Woody as containing telemetry reset. There are still no reports that this is true, so that's why I asked. And I don't run Windows 7 so can't check myself.
You did not list this patch as installed.
    Ok, thanks Page.

In case anyone is following, I inadvertently left out a 'telemetry' task that I also previously disabled... Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser.

I've followed the links given in posts #5473 and #5478 by JRViejo and it seems to me that I should disable/delete things as described on the "AskWoody" site - "2000012: Neutralize Telemetry & Sustain Win 7, 8.1 Monthly Rollup Model". I've had a look on this PC which runs Windows 7 SP1 64-bit and most of the items mentioned there are shown as either running or enabled. I'd be very grateful for any advice you can give me.

Take a look at page 214 of this thread at the very end and also few more posts on page 215. I suspect that's the details you're looking for. Sorry if that's not it. But if it is ...
I did all these settings on Windows 7 and subsequent update(s) did not change them.
I don't do Customer experience and several of the tasks say that they run but do nothing if Customer experience is off. Still shutting the tasks off seems sensible to me.

Edit: You have to change the settings as admin or run all this in the admin account.

It looks like Microsoft is on a roll with this update. Straight downhill. You'd think they'd be good at this by now. I'm not a Microsoft hater by any means. Just disappointed.

Thanks for your help. I've had a look at those pages and done what Page42 mentions in posts #5350 & 5352. I think I should now do what it says on Woody's site in post #219238:
    https://www.askwoody.com/forums/top...n-win-7-8-1-monthly-rollup-model/#post-219238
There are some good screen shots shown there.
