    Hi folks.
Someone can tell me how good is firewall BlackIce Pr.? It could be a good substitute to my old Sygate free?
I had read some old post here about BlackIce Pr., but I didn't understand if it is a good firewall or not.

Another thing: any news about some filseclab update?
Thanks a lot for your answers.

I used BI several years and i was very pleased even there ar very different opinions out there regarding BI.
For your orientation BI is not a Firewall in the classic way. It is a IDS (introducion detecion system). It checks only your incoming traffic for bad stuff including suspiccious email attachments, etc. This it is doing very well. I know many user who use it together with Firewalls who don't have a IDS integratet or a FW like Sysgate which won't get updated anymore. Sysgate Pro i think has an internal IDS.

BI, if you use it alone, should be installed on a absolute fresh clean OS, because i does not check outgoing traffic. Further it has a little FW integratet which allows you basic blocking of IP's. etc.

    Hello,

Maybe interesting to know: ISS (Internet Security Systems) the maker of BlackIce was acquired on August 23 by IBM.

    Kind regards,

BlackICE PC protection has outbound monitoring, but it isn't very informative, and apps in the baseline it makes don't get monitored. Its IDS is good, but only really useful on servers IMO. I would use a firewall such as Outpost or ZoneAlarm if you have a desktop PC.

There was a notable vulnerability in BlackICE a while back that has since been fixed. I don't know how it ranks with other firewalls in vulnerabilities over time, though.

So I will not consider BlackIce. It isn't a good choice.

    Any Filseclab news?
