Hi,folks , i am currently using this product; working smoothly along with outpost pro 3.5(in despite of warning msg from outpost*puppy* ). within BlackIce, there are two options: application control and commuication control that i have not used. Has anyone had any experience with them? are they reliable and how are they compared to other apps such SSM, PG,and the like ? Yhanks.

BID is an intrusion detection system that goes by rules kept up-to-date by ISS. It is a nice program, if that's that approach you want to use. If you decide you want to keep both Outpost and BID running and are sick of the warning dialog you get at startup, you can open the "checkfw.ini" file in Outpost's installation directory (C:\program files\.....) and remove the proccess of BID that Outpost is detecting. Or you can just change the "DisableFwCheck=no" line to "DisableFwCheck=yes" (Thanks p2k)

While I wouldn't normally comment on a specific choice of firewall, I think BlackIce merits a warning - it has had more security vulnerabilities than most others and still has a couple outstanding, so using it in conjunction with another firewall could well lower your overall security.
