I jumped on this deal yesterday been looking for another antivirus to replace ESET NOD32 Antivirus 7.0.302.26 that I purchased in November on a 5 dollar deal at the EGG it slowed my system down more than I could handle. I disabled the firewall in Bit defender TS since I run Outpost firewall pro with lifetime license so far my system has really improved in performance
and no problems so far.

 

If I had only waited a week...grabbed the 3 pc for 1 year $19.95 last week. Oh well, still a deal.

nm - see it has a BD engine.

 

I use Avira now but am not happy with them. I get popups all the time on files that I TOLD were safe, but it insists on annoying me every couple days.

Is Bit Defender a good AV?

 

Without the whole story about what's being detected. Upload them to www.virustotal.com to see if more vendors detects them.

If someone you know told you that they were safe then they probably are, and Avira may detect a PUA in the installer or somekind of bundle that the person didn't tell you about. Impossible to know without more info. Take a closer look at what's being detected instead of looking for a replacement. If you believe they are FP's then report them to Avira.
