Apologies if this is in the wrong discussion group as I am a newbie ! I tried to install SP2 for Windows XP Home on my new PC but it would not install. All I got was the following message on the screen - "OUT OF RANGE" so I had to restart my PC in safe mode and perform a system restore. I sent for the CD from Microsoft, hoping this would sort the problem but no, the same thing has happened again. Aside from ripping my hair out in total frustration, can anyone please advise ? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hi welcome on the forum Green Eyes

have you scanned your puter with adaware, spybot, antivirus yet?

try to do that in safe mode and clean your temps. and system restore files....

    then try to do this:

go to prompt (start>all programs>accessories>prompt) and type :

chkdsk /f /r choose yes and reboot, let your system scan for inconsistencies.

reboot and try again to install sp2

    hope this will help you.
