IMO citizens should be worried both about "how social networks and supermarkets are using their private data" and about government's privacy invasions. One does not exclude the other.

Agreed :thumb: since they will both be compelled to collude in the harvesting, and exponentially ever-growing accumulation of human personal data, modern times most wanted 'commodity'.

funny they mention supermarkets - recently when i buy gas at Chevron and after i swipe my CC thru the reader, the screen asks if i'm a Safeway preferred customer or whatever their value card is (i am) - i always reply with the "no" option because i'm not interested but i get the feeling that Chevron knows or they wouldn't be asking.
