Any Idea on release of Beta2 because I have a clean install of XP Pro & Vista Ultimate 32bit and would like to have the next build to try!

    Cheers,

Why wait for Beta 2? Beta 1b works fine. You can install the next beta when it comes.

No dates have been given so Im guesing you'll just have to wait for it.

Waiting is no problem. My crystal ball says this is the only frigging suite that "could" get it right in the end. Yes I am harsh on them, but that is only because I know they can do it, even at a snails pace.

I'm waiting for beta 2 so I can run a scheduled scan where I can see the GUI on the screen while the scan is running. I know I keep harping on this, but it's pet peeve of mine. Everyone has to have a wish list, this is mine. ;) :D

The beta 2 will be the first version 64bit compatible. I'm a 64bit Windows user since XP x64 edition beta and I'll never return to 32bit.

I can point out a post from April 6th where a forum moderator stated that they didn't want to hold up the initial release on account of Right click ("in-context")scanning for 1-2 weeks.

I'm quite sure he wasn't intentionally misleading us but... This Sunday will mark the 4 month anniversary of the ESS beta initial release.

So it seems the progress on this Beta is something of a disappointment to the ESET folks as well as to us potential consumers. I don't want them to have a buggy final release either. I just wish the code had been a little further along before announcing it to the public.

Since no one from ESET is providing a schedule for this ESS Beta going forward, maybe we can learn something from past Betas. How long did the Betas for NOD32 V2.0, V2.5, and V2.7 run?

Me too evildust. I set up XP x86 along with my XP x64 on a dual boot just to test the beta. The beta works great but the x86 system has just the basics. My x64 system is the one I use all the time. So I guess I'll keep on anxiously waiting for Beta 2.

Though I'm getting a little tired of waiting I still have to say " Keep up the good work ESET ". All of the software I've gotten from you guys has worked great.

    Hi!
We can't compare old NOD32 v2 beta because they have all been v2 - upgrade from 2 to 2.5 ; or from 2.5 to 2.7 - still v2 . This is absolutely new code (improved antivirus but new firewall/antispam,new new new) . It will definitely take much more than NOD32 v2 betas :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

That is a valid point but I think we need something more substantial than "some day". Folks have decisions to make. My laptop security apps come due at the end of August. I figured for sure this thing would be ready by then. Now I'll have to make other arrangements.

    I agree with that.

Eset make good products and I've every confidence that ESS will be top notch but they are not very good and customer service skills.

They should make greater efforts to keep their customer base informed. I think the vast majority of people who use this forum would be quite capable of understanding that timescales tend to change but the problem is that Eset say nothing at all.

It's like they think they are doing us a favour by producing a new product and we should be grateful whenever it arrives. I honestly think the customer service side of Eset need to be more open and make the customer feel valued rather than an inconvenience.

No one knows when beta 2 will be available, all we know is that it will happen shortly. It is still being worked out so giving even an approximate date would not be serious as we could not guarantee it.

Thanks for the info. I fully appreciate what is involved in software development and debugging so I understand that a precise release schedule cannot be given months in advance.

What I don't understand though is when you say that no one knows when Beta 2 will be ready.

There must be a plan at Eset of some kind and I think all I and most others would like to see is some information coming out in exchange for the beta feedback that we all put in, even if this info changes from time to time.

People will understand you delaying to resolve an issue if you explain what is happening. What people don't like is being kept in the dark after contributing to the product through testing and feedback.

We have some internal schedules, but no dates will be announced unless it's almost 100% sure that the product is ready for release on that date. It's quite common that the release of software is postponed due to unexpected problems. We don't want to be hunted if the product is not yet suitable for release at that time. Releasing buggy software with our knowledge would be a big mistake.

I take the point but there must be a way to keep people better advised what is happening than what we have today.

I don't think anyone wants Eset to release sub-standard software but some info as to what is happening would be welcome.

What is happening is that beta 2 is being worked out and will be available shortly. However, this has been stated some time ago so we have no other news at the time being.

I agree completely, considering that ESS was first supposed to be out over a year ago. My guess is we'll see the final release sometime in late 2008. I can wait.

Perhaps, but I'm not talking beta, or release candidates. I'm talking "final" as in out of beta, on sale for public consumption. :)
