I am looking for best monitor settings to minimize eye-strain on a desktop computer. As the title suggests, most of what I view and work on is text-centric.
    I am currently running Windows 10 x64

My primary monitor is a new ASUS TUF VG27AQ1A 27" QHD
I currently have it set to 1920 x 1080 resolution, with 120 hz refresh rate. Scaling is at 100%.

I could crank it up to native resolution, which is 2560 x 1440. But due to the limitations of my integrated graphics and HDMI cable (no DisplayPort on this computer), I would have to go down to 60 hz refresh rate. And everything would look too small, so I would have to increase scaling to 125%.

My secondary monitor is a Samsung S24B300. It is 24''. It is currently at 1600 x 900, and 60 hz refresh rate, which makes the display big enough for me to see from the distance at which it is placed.

What's better: native resolution with lower refresh rate, even if I have to scale it up? Or my current settings? Or maybe it doesn't even make a difference for my user case?

I have system images of Kubuntu 20.04 (and a couple other distros) but I had trouble with the dual monitor thing. On Kubuntu 20.04, I couldn't set different refresh rates for different monitors. On Ubuntu 21.04, which boots to Wayland by default, I could set different refresh rates, but screen locking didn't work. After trying to lock for a second, it reverts to the desktop.

I'd go with higher resolution/60hz, everything will look crispier. The lower refresh rate won't be a problem since most of your viewing is text related.
Also, KDE does a good job with scaling and you'd have both monitors @60hz.
