That's a BOLD claim. My KIS 6.0.2.621 has 2 processes with a combined total of <15MB of memory usage right now, and there is little impact on system performance. Don't get me wrong, NAV/NIS 2007 aren't bloated, but the installer is heavy, and so are the number of processes compared to KIS. See the post below for one individuals list of processes.

IMO, best security suites (in terms of user-friendliness and good enough detection rates) are Trend Micro IS, Norton IS and ZoneAlarm IS. AVG and Panda are also good but AVG has not very good interface and Panda's upgrade policy and detection rates are not yet so clear.

BTW, when making this claim I'm not taking resource usage into mind, because having 1GB of RAM means very few products will slow the PC down considerably. :)

I tried Painda IS. I liked it, but I couldn't get it's firewall to pass the leak test at GRC. It passed the Shields Up test with no problems.

As for NIS 2007, as I mention in this thread, it took a good ten minutes to load after reboot.

Pilotart in that same thread, said that it takes at least three reboots to get everything in NIS 2007 loaded. After that, reboots should be back to normal. I think that is crazy. Why would anyone have to reboot their PC three or four times just to get all the NIS drivers loaded? A better question is, why would Symantec make a piece of crap software where the customer had to reboot three or four times to get all the drivers loaded?

    this forum is biased!
well i have a decent enough laptop,

    dual core, 2gb ddr2 etc

and norton DOES run faster than kaspersky (2007 vs 6 and beta 7)

kaspersky seems to drag a little when opening folders on a machine, and also when checking emails.

its not slow, but the new norton puts it to shame a bit, especially on my machine.

    For now I would say:
    1. KIS 7
    2. ZASS 7
    3. Panda 2007
    4. Norton 2007
    5. BitDefender 10

Panda is doing good thing sover there in Spain. Nice smooth engine. Very curious what the detection rate will be

I fail to understand why so many people talk such rubbish about colours and style of Anti Virus Software.

The purpose of the programme is to find and kill viruses! To that end I think both Norton and McAfee are very good, and neither slow my system at all. On the subject of colour-if you had a burglar, would you worry about the damn colour of the Policemans uniform that came to arrest him?

I find this hilarious - a Windows security program (Panda) being advertised on a webhost using Apache running on a Linux OS :D

Softonic is an authorized reseller of Panda on top of that :D
