Any websites that take newbies through the basics of security, what programmes to use, how to set them up, preferably free programmes.

When I lived next door I popped in and sorted the PC issues, unfortunately, England-Australia is too far for the personal touch.

Now that they are all finally getting broadband they need to take security a tad more seriously.

The website can be their 1st line of support with me being next. Plus, also it encourages them to learn.

    Thanks
    Ian

Here is a nice link for rolling together a great security suite for free. As for learning general security, the best way is to probably read and PARTICIPATE in the forums, with wilders being one of the best sites to do this IMO :thumb:

One of the most important sites I used for learning about security was Wilders' software page. They had a lot of very helpful info and ratings on security software. That's where I started and participating in this forum has helped me even more.

I'll pass these on along with http://www.getsafeonline.org/.

Wilders is excellent. I don't think they know enough to ask questions, yet.

I'll certainly suggest they do searches here.

    Thanks

    Hello,
At what level do you want to approach the security?
How deeply do you want to control the operating system?
Do you want to use a setup - or learn a setup - as in give a man a fish and he'll be sated for a day, teach him how to fish and he'll be sated for life.
Would you consider extreme and unortodox measures along the way or would you stick with play it safe methods?
    Mrk
