    Hello,

Almost any program that you purchase a CD for will have a newer build avaliable on the web. The time it takes to have a CD manufactured can span 2 or 3 build releases. The backup CD is just that, a backup. This way if you have internet connection problems, you can install the software in the meantime.

The point of delivering security software on CD is to give the user an option to install it on computers not connected to the Internet with ease. CDs are not burned in the night and delivered to shops right in the morning, it always takes time to prepare and distribute them. In the meantime, it often happens that a newer version of the security software is already available.

The situation is similar with operating system installation CDs. Unless you're connected to the Internet you'd be reasonably fine with installing Windows XP without any service pack. Otherwise you should install the latest SP along with all available hotfixes from the net in order to be protected against lately discovered vulnerabilities.
