I think I started a topic like this before and it got deleted. This is not a VS b thread. I just want to know what free avs don't nag to buy a full version that's all.

The only pop up you will see from Avast when updating, is a small pop up window in the sys tray area, informing you that it performed its automatic update of signatures and it will auto-hide in a few seconds.

    Avast is great because:

    1) has no nag screens , even if it's free.
    2) Runs very light (specially if you use just standard shield).
    3) It's very good at its job.

Although in Avast Home 4.8 there is an advert on the Shield options window. It is not nagging but is implying/offering you to upgrade to Pro. The advert disappears for a short time after a program update though.

You could always go with one of the above mentioned, and a-squared free.

Doesn't scan real-time, but it can right-click scan for a second scanning option (or first in my case :) ). You can update it manually, but Kees has posted before how to update it automatically when logging on, or through Windows task manager.

Thanks for your replies ^^ I can install Avast on my clients and they won't feel unprotected. I have a question about Avira. Does the free version still have update problems. I heard they were slower. And the other question is. How to disable the ads in Avira ? And I guess the method changes everytime there's a new version right ?

tekkaman, you started this thread with a valid question and now you have changed the subject, asking about Avira while mentioning Avast.

I'm not going to close this thread, but if it veers away from your original question, it will end up closed as per Policy. You are in control of your thread, don't let it happen.

You're right. The ad has not returned. I though it will re-appear sometime after the update to build 1356. Thanks for the info.
