    Hi,

I was looking at f-secure at it last updated at 13:26 today(my Current av)
then i looked at antivir vdf history and last update was 4:04pm today.
but yesterday it updated at 18:04.

do av company's get lazy at weekends? or is it just that there is no threats that need protecting against

i would like to know when the last kaspersky update was today?

Well, analysts also need holidays like you and me. Besides, since most of the corporate customers of the AV companies don't work weekends, there is much lower need for very frequent or hourly updates. If there is an outbreak, an update is still released to cover the threat, since home users are indeed likely to get affected.

Well, from what i have noticed in the past, certain companies lay back on weekends and only update if something critical comes along.

U can check here for that,

In all reality most of the analysts can work right from their home. If any bad guys are sent out then most companies are right on top of it. No sweat, no worries...if ya got the right AV. ;)

I don't know that I would call it "lazy".
I notice that some a/v's don't update on weekends.Sometimes the occasional weekend update will appear with Vba32.

I don't doubt that Vba32 or any good antivirus would release an update on a weekend if a threat made it neccessary.

    Hmmm.
A case in point regarding weekend updates.
    Vba32 updated virus definitions today.

Every serious AV company has a good outbreak detection system, using various sensors. And of course they will release updates as fast as possible, at every day, every time if something important comes up.

    Hi Lodore

What was the name of the virus, and where did it say it was found?, it may be an FP or in the system restore?

Make sure you don't upload the results here though, they'll be removed in no time...

You said that your fsecure hadn't updated for a couple of days; kaspersky viruswatch says that particular exploit was only added to their database on 22/9/06 (friday) so your f-secure will probably have it in next update.

ah thanks for the info i didnt know the exploit was new.

thats why i done a kaspersky online scan because it updated today.

so what i said to satart with was party true. f-secure should have protected against that explot this weekend instead of waiting till monday. and i guess they will protect against it on monday.

i mean i did get lucky because the exploit didnt damage my pc but what if it was deadly and damaged my pc because f-secure didnt update?
they always say about there fast response to updates so if the above happerned could i get them for false advertising?
