I didn't find such great differences like yours. Win 8.1 Pro, 32-bit: Booting in 25/30 sec, without Avira Firewall & Mail modules: 20/25 sec.
I just downloaded a password protected sample and Avira detected the zipped folder as a malware(hidden worm) !!!! (not on extraction, just after downloading) Then I deactivate Avira, redownloaded the sample and extracted it.....Finally I scanned the extracted folder with Avira and the result is "Adware" How is that happenming in the recent version?!!!
That's because the filenames inside the archive aren't encrypted. HIDDENEXT means the file inside the archive is detected based on its filename due to the fact it doesn't have an extension.
It's "AIRS" (Avira Intelligent Repair System) ........ not "AIDS" Avira Intelligent Detect System). Avira Intelligent Repair System https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2341907&postcount=1310
Nice comment anon.....I liked that I dont understand how Avira detected a malware in a password protected folder... I checked the same situation with Avast and it could not detect it....can anyone explain it for me... What is HIDDENEXT CRYPTED? thanks in advance
I've already explained it in my previous post. Because having a file with a double/hidden extension (.zip.exe) in a password protected archive (which doesn't encrypt filenames) is suspicious according to Avira.
Yeah I am not so sure that was the direct cause, perhaps indirect. It appears there may have been a conflict between products causing an 'argument'. They fought over the ports until one/other gave up. So disabling one, fixed the overall issue for me. Likely this wouldn't apply to most people. Sorry.
I am surprised to see that Avira is still calling their on demand scanner Luke Filewalker. This is 2014 in the world of security software. It makes it more difficult to take security seriously like that.
Their casting for the next Star Wars movie now so the play on words is still valid and current oh Lord of the Sith.
May the force be with... Avira! I think security is taken very seriously by Avira, proof is their most recent results are excellent, different names won't improve detection.
There was a definite change on my system (Win8 64 bit) with Avira controlling the Window Firewall and the mail module installed booting times were erratic ranging from 20-35 seconds to see the desktop + another 20 seconds for all applications to be ready. Now after uninstalling Avira's firewall control and the mail module, booting time is always 12 seconds and all applications are ready within 10 seconds. Now this isn't a problem really, as most of the time I keep my computer in sleep mode, but my booting time was definitely affected by Avira.
Good to hear this.. It's definitely a problem, but thankfully easy to solve. Basically what happens is you see the desktop, then maybe a couple of things load into the tray, then it 'pauses' for up to a minute, possibly longer. Eventually it loads. So far disabling mail+firewall modules in AVIRA seem to fix it. Thankfully those modules aren't needed by me. But still. Glad I could help, it was driving me insane how it dramatically raised boot times.

Something I should know about buying licenses off Ebay? I just sold a stack of Webroot licenses on Ebay, no problem. Then purchased a stack of Avira 3PC licenses for $15 each no problem, verified they were legit keys with Avira support.
Is the Proactive still there in paid version & does it works i.e effective i.e detects malware? Coz comparison chart on the website doesn't mention Proactive.

Yes...suspicious file is instantly checked against their database, if not present, it's uploaded and processed by AI engines.
