except the launcher version i have tested imo stinks. not only do you HAVE to open avira gui from the launcher just to get to the gui (then why bother having a desktop icon), when you open the "launcher" you are greeted with ...... ads. you get ads for all the extras most people do not want. and imo its very annoying to see those every time i have to open the launcher. i paid for only the pro version i DONT WANT to see ads for anything more nor do i want to be offered ads for the upgraded versions (kitchen sink bloated versions). i will never upgrade to those so why am i forced to see things asking me if i want this or that. i selected pro when buying nothing more. make those a ONE TIME thing. once the first pop up of the launcher shows have a small x on each one to CLOSE THEM and ask "do you want to see them again" so i can select no and not ever be bother again then maybe i would not mind as much.

besides that, now when installing / uninstalling its all or nothing. it was VERY nice to have a custom button (and i know flags are coming to help with this but 99% of normal users do not know how to use those) to remove the extras people do NOT WANT like the audio grabber for instance. really? what place does a audio grabber even have in an av program? and dropbox etc i dont use dropbox and will never do so. so i dont want it installed.

another point: i DO NOT want to "merge" or connect all my devices together. i prefer to manage my phone totally separate from my laptop etc. i will not ever do this and many others will not either. and if you want to let it manage other accounts etc then this really should be a enterprise product not a normal home product. when i am not at my personal computer NO ONE IS USING IT lol so why do i want to be notified of something that is turned off, nothing can happen or infect it if its turned off. yes this is great for someone who is monitoring multiple systems or office managers etc etc but for a normal home user imo they dont need this. or offer this management in only your premier products and use it as a selling point. then those that will use it and want it can buy it and know they will have that option (best way imo)

and you mention another service. avira already has enough of those imo dont get me wrong im okay with those. in the past i was not and would not have used one with so many services but it runs okay and works well but to add another service / use more memory for something that i dont need or really want honestly??

i don't mean to be rude at all here and i apologize if i come off that way. its just SO FRUSTRATING when you find a av you really love to use and they go and change everything on you for really no reasons i will even use the new changes for. i love it as is even the gui some think is dated, i love the gui. its just frustrating that once all these changes are made i may have to look elsewhere now if i am forced to use all this stuff and be shown ads all the time from the launcher.

    A great "benefit" indeed!
    ---------------------
    Another ..... "benefit"!
    ---------------------
No comment. Personally, I don't need it.
    ----------------------
Why to switch to free versions? I see no reason to do it.
    ----------------------
Ditto. Why to switch to free-paid?

No comment. Personally, I don't need it.

All above "benefits" are just bells and whistles, IMHO.

Wait am I missing something here? I have installed Avira Antivirus Pro 14.0.7.306 over 15 times in the past month and have never seen that launcher or any buttons to click to upgrade to anything such as a feature in a higher suite or dropbox. I thought that bloatware as for the free version only but now you're saying you have it on your Avira PRO AV? How come? Heck if that is like coming soon I will request for a refund of my 4 year license right away!

no, they are revenue, plain and simple. With all the freebies out there, I am sure the costs for companys to provide a solid paid product are increasing and as such, generating revenue is a main factor. You cant blame them, I mean you can but in the end, we all will suffer.

Whoa!!! I am simply blown away!!! what the heck is this? an antivirus or one of those scamware driver updater / system speedup toolso_Oo_O I in no way will accept seeing any of this nonsense in my antivirus dashboard! Asking for a refund for my 4 year license right now! Thanks Avira, for spoiling one of the best AVs out there and the very rare ones that had none of this nonsense, but I guess you just had to follow the lead of other companies. There are only 2 or 3 AVs that I can name now which only offer you one and only one thing, the AV! no login system, no cloud backup, no speedup tools, no registry cleaner, no driver updater, none of that nonsense!

That's why we PAY for an AV, to get no ads and no bloat!! not to get hammered with such useless features! If I want a system cleaner, I use CCleaner, I never want and noone hsould update driver unless they are from their computer's manufacturer, approved, and tested, simply getting a newer driver doesn't mean it will make your PC better! it may only cause issues!

Let them make money from the free users not from us paying customers who pay their salaries!

I would rather install MSE and get infected than use any AV with such bloatware

Edit: Just requested for a full refund form y 4 year license. Bye bye Avira!

right now your product might be on top 3 on av... but your future vision make you bottom 3 in my perspective

The moment I think of purchasing more than 1 year of an Antivirus' subscription because after testing it it turns out to be good, they have to do something to spoil it! Happened to me with every single AV out there! seems like I'm cursed with not finding a good AV like I and many others want, lean and clean and effective. Driver updater! keep your system running smooth! (yes, we will help you break your perfect system!!) Then we will scan your registry and clean it and totally destroy your system like every other registry cleaner does! Good job AVIRA! LOL

They will lose so much business because of this. Starting from me, I used to recommend every client I fix their PC to invest in a good AV and that was usually Avira, sold about 12 licenses that way......this is all going to stop now......and I'm sure many of us here are doing the same thing.

All the rage about added OE and other stuff is understandable from the point of view of us, advanced users, a negligible minority accustomed to the old and classic look of usage of Avira.

But times change and I'd dare to say that most users won't give a damn about it (I'm not in this group, btw).

Sad but true, people will think that's the way it is. But advanced users like us here on Wilders will not accept this joke period. by any means.

I'm ok if they wanna include that nonsense to the Free version but heck not to the Pro (paid) version! Also, when one buys the antivirus only and not the Internet Security or whatever higher suite they have, it is because he only needs that, and certainly doesn't wanna see any button that if he clicks will launch his browser taking him to their site to upgrade to the higher suite (say for example, the system optimizer or secure shredder, etc)

Although I hate OE as well and uninstalled Avira free from three of my computers, I have to admit you are right. The general mass more prefer a install-and-forget style and they don't give a damn about what GUI they see. And a few ads will not get to the point for them to change their AV. So the benefit really is only for Avira.

Matthias. All of the benefits you listed may benefit some customers, but I do not see any benefit from them. I have no need or want for any of those. Bottom line, a custom install should be allowed that doesn't install OE, for those of us that have been subscribing for years and do not want or need it.

I don't even install Avira mail protection, firewall or the right-click GUI menu addition.

Also, I hate to say it, but a new GUI? The classic GUI is one of the things I still love about Avira. If you guys manageg to botch up the GUI (Good example of a program I no longer use: MBAM!) then I think I will have to jump ship. Webroot and Trend do not have any forced tray icon/OE type things.

im not jumping ship......yet..... but if things go the way they seem to be then i most likely will. now as i posted once before i have been told by as high as one can get within avira (from my talks with the ceo directly) there will be flags we can use for the install to customize it. they are not ready yet and only the silent install one is in beta. but he said there were more being worked on. so this may mean for us as long as you know how to use the flags we may not have a problem. my issue is will we be able to not install the launcher (oe) with those. this i do not know yet.

    Ditto.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. It hasn’t been implemented yet at least on the Pro version of Avira, and I think I will reserve my judgment until I use it. I quickly checked on the Internet what OE is exactly, and it doesn’t look so wicked… I also support a basic AV, but what is superfluous to us might be a novelty to many average users.

At least you can uninstall the launcher crap later and only AVIRA AV remains active.

Just try to perform a manual update from the OE taskbar....................

[You can't update via the OE taskbar* icon, you have to open the Avira GUI from the OE taskbar in order to perform a manual update via the GUI]

No, you don't have to. Just uninstall "Avira" not "Avira AntiVirus" and you are able to update over the taskbar.
